You Will Be Challenged by DarKnot and Dwarf’s Adventure

Reading Time: 4 minutes

The Steam platform allows all kinds of games, so prepare for horror with DarKnot and buckle your breastplate with Dwarfs Adventure

Steam Has Video Games To Enjoy

Steam isn’t something coming out of a cartoon characters ears, but a video game online service and storefront for buying same. Created by Valve, it is available to use on both PCs, Mac computers and the Linux OS. It provides all kinds of games, the majority of them looking for a PC, with some for the others just noted above, and with the vast majority of these games being ‘indie’ (independent) of the major game console makers (there are some exceptions like anything else in life). So what’s the draw? You get games that fall outside of the tried and true — in other words you get all kinds of games beyond the expected.. Plus their cost is so much more minimal than you can give a game a go without having to doublecheck your pocket or pray to the game-gods it’ll be worth it.

So it’s time to dive into two really good examples of what you can get by being on Steam (which doesn’t cost, btw). The first is DarKnot, which is a psychological horror story for the PC, and the second is Dwarf’s Adventure, an old school type dungeon exploration game for PCs/Macs.

DarKnot Is Dark Horror

DarKnot is a third person psychological horror game — and that’s a lot of description text to get out of the way first. So third person means you’re looking at the game from ‘outside’, which is not normally how you spend life. But here it means you’re more viewing as an overview rather than a more narrow one. As to physiological, that means more that the game is going to play tricks with the player rather than being straightforward. Which makes for a more intense and interesting time spent. Finally the horror aspect is obvious — sunshine and rainbows are not what this is all about. Some of the images will be disturbing and at times just plain unnatural and that’s exactly how it should be. Remember to look up, or maybe not.

Scaring The Bejeepers Out of You

As to what it’s all about, think about seeing your character from ‘outside your body’ as it were, as you explore streets of a very foggy city (no sunshine means no easy time discerning what’s good, bad or in between and that includes details which, from a distance might help). And that there’s monsters inhabiting alongside means exactly what you’d expect when confronted. That you have to fight your way through bad situations and even worse scenarios is a given, although avoiding trouble is always the best first response. But those you meet might be other players or they might not be and so their agenda is up for grabs. Of course there’s no straight line to follow, so expecting challenges and puzzles occurring seems obvious. Unfortunately. And anyone who thinks this game is suitable for all ages is plain nuts. Mature rated actually means something here. Plus the music adds to the atmosphere but not in a good way. To find out more go to https://darknot.com/

Dwarf’s Adventure Will Test Your Mettle

So Dwarf’s Adventure has you as a dwarf (well, duh) and that means a pretty squat but hardened character. Examining and clearing a dungeon means using potions and weapons and checking your inventory and using your head but hurting the enemies mostly — but it also means you’re not getting a world view spanning city blocks, but an overhead angled one outside the character’s knoggin that’s confined to just an somewhat small area that you’re in at the present time. It’s a view strongly reminiscent of your imagination if you used to play D&D on a board, but obviously with all the special effects and sounds you could want. Also kind of like those games from the 1990’s that had you focus in on one area rather than the ‘big picture.’Best effect to us is whacking something to see it turn into puddle-meat as a skull floats out and above. Just be aware that the traps don’t scream out ‘we’re here,’ but stay unobtrusive until you trip them. Meanwhile there’s an unobtrusive soundtrack playing to keep the boredom out but more as a cool white noise. And if you had to ask it’s obvious you’re out to grab the most loot and cool stuff you can. More. More. More.

Create Your Own Levels

Now for all what you can do, that you can create your own levels and choose from options to do construction helps to make the game go longer — if you’re one of those who think you could do better, now’s your chance. Add them to the game or share them using the Steam Workshop.

So to conclude, you can play using the normal now-hot graphics or go back to the days of the PS1 with the retro mode. Don’t worry about the ‘why’ or ‘saving’ anybody or solving anything other than what’s in front of you, because there’s nothing in the dungeon looking to be your friend. But who needs friends when there’s stuff waiting for you to grab? More details can be had at https://eskemagames.es
