When does The Offer premiere on Paramount+?
You may have heard some scuttlebutt about that Godfather docu-drama even if you don’t fit into the minuscule niche of cinephiles interested in delving into the semi-fictionalized history of Francis Ford Coppola’s mob epic, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Production on The Offer (April 28, a three-episode premiere) was just getting off the ground when original cast member Armie Hammer, cast as film producer Albert S. Ruddy, was outed as a weirdo on Twitter; he was subsequently replaced with Miles Teller, who made headlines of his own for his anti-vaccine beliefs and forcing the production to shut down after he contracted COVID. The trailer looks promising, anyway:
If you’re seeking a throwback less steeped in controversy but with a running time that feels approximately as long, Paramount+ will debut a remastered version of Robert Wise’s director’s cut of 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture on April 5, which is apparently ‘First Contact Day.’ This recut of the infamously boring but franchise-launching big-screen Trek was originally assembled in the heyday of the DVD boom and has been largely unavailable in the 20 years since, because the new effects sequences were only finished in standard definition. Soon you will be able to nap through all 143 minutes of it in glorious 4K HD.
