What Is Dynamic Lock on Windows? How to Use it

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Make your phone the key to your PC with Dynamic Lock for Windows.

Windows Dynamic Lock is one of those nifty features that are buried in settings, so not a lot of people know about it. Once you enable it, the feature automatically locks your computer when you walk away from it.

Let’s see how to enable and use Dynamic Lock on Windows 10.

What Is Dynamic Lock on Windows?

Dynamic Lock, as the name suggests, is a feature that allows you to automatically lock your computer. The feature works by using the Bluetooth connection established between your PC and mobile phone to determine when you’ve walked away from your computer.

Once you are out of Bluetooth range, Windows locks itself.

Enabling Dynamic Lock is quite easy provided you’ve already connected your phone to your PC. So, first, connect your phone and PC using Bluetooth.

How to Use Dynamic Lock on Windows

Once your phone and PC are connected:

  • Hit the Windows keys, type ‘sign in’, and choose the appropriate option to open Sign-in options.
  • Scroll down to the Dynamic lock section and check Allow Windows to automatically lock your device when you’re away.

Here, if your phone is connected to your PC, the feature will start working. Otherwise, you’ll be prompted to configure a Bluetooth connection.

That’s it. Your PC will now lock itself whenever you’re not on your desk. Just make sure to take your smartphone with you otherwise. If you don’t, Dynamic Lock won’t trigger.

For instance, you can receive notifications from your Android phone and interact with them, make and answer phone calls, send and receive text messages, etc.
