A Smart Teddy Is Interactive Educational Fun
Educational toys have come a long way over time. Once they were somewhat boring because, as senseless as it sounds, the makers of the toys thought that just having an educational bent without the toy being fun was all that was needed. This resulted in a lot of so-called educational toys that were passed over by parents, not to mention the children that they were supposed to work for. But sense finally took hold and educational toys began to be more in tune with teaching lessons encased within a fun means that young children and every months-old born could get behind. And so now we have interactive educational toys.
An interactive educational toy teaches without being obvious about it — especially for the child for whom it has been given — and adds more to the mix than a static toy requiring imagination only. Today’s interactive toys have the advantage of digital technologies and so not only perform more adroitly and cleverly than their earlier cousins, but also are able to challenge the child in ways that static toy never could. Which brings us to the Teddy Bear — one of the iconic toys beloved by young children everywhere (we all know of Winnie the Pooh, Paddington Bear, etc.) — which is getting an interactive update with the Smart Teddy, which not only informs but teaches practical experiences to children ages 3-5.
This Smart Teddy Is Private
The Smart Teddy looks like a medium sized lovable soft plush teddy bear, because it is. It can be hugged and squeezed and loved by the child (of course) and slept with if desired — all the things that a non-interactive ‘plain’ Teddy could do. Of course there’s a lot more to it than that, but let’s first deal with the most important aspect, being privacy. Smart Teddy has no camera and no microphone so there’s no one or company in the ‘either’ that’ can see or hear the child playing. That also includes, as it relates to the app (more on that in a bit) — no ads or local data storage or in-app tracking. So any concerns about any info being collected can rest easy. Sure it might not sound like a big deal when other interactive toys ‘mention’ that some info is being acquired, but yes it’s a really big deal when it’s you and yours that could be affected. So kudos to the company for this.
Interacting With Smart Teddy
And it’s important to remember that Smart Teddy is a STEM approved educational toy (STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, mathematics). The ‘educational’ part is that this toy is designed not just to help the child develop their imagination but also do such things as aid in learning numbers, the letters of the alphabet and so also expand their vocabulary. All tied into creating a pathway towards critical thinking which never ends but can start now.
So to interact with Smart Teddy it’s all about its paws and feet — and also the app for the parents, but the child is going to be pushing against the sensors in the paws/feet so we’ll start there. Pressing the left paw brings up stories and poems and fairy tales that Smart Teddy tells the child about (obviously there’s an interior rechargeable battery for providing the power and it’s in a small case inside the back of the bear. The right paw is the ‘Super Paw’ because it works with the interactive stickers (we’ll get to that too), while the left foot holds Favorites for storing/playing right away favorites from what the child is/has been listening to. That leaves the other foot and here you get all kinds of stuff in the trivia world and cool facts and of course child-friendly for sure. Smart Teddy uses Wi-Fi and NFC to access information; Wi-Fi for accessing new content (updates are free and regular and done automatically), while NFC utilizes the special stickers included. These stickers are used to trigger events such as telling bedtime stories (looking like a Moon), or encouraging exercising and others. The Smart Teddy does have some preinstalled stories and poems and the bear is ‘aware’ of the time of day (daytime/nighttime) also.
Parents Supervision
Activities are chosen through the app by the parent to activate Teddy with educational games and scenarios (25+). The app connects to the bear through Bluetooth, eliminating the possibility of hacking. One can think of the Smart Teddy as a huggable audio player as well as an interactive one, but that doesn’t come close to how much it can bring to a child.
