With simplicnbsity as the core focus of these apps, they do lack the extra features you’ll find in some of the most popular habit trackers. For example, you won’t get detailed statistics about your logs, or you won’t be able to share and track habits with friends. But those are worthwhile sacrifices when you want a simple and efficient personal habit tracker.

1. DailyHabits.xyz (Web): Simplest Habit Tracker for Streaks or Flexible Goals

The internet’s favorite daily habit tracker is Everyday, but the free version only lets you add three goals. DailyHabits includes most of Everyday’s features, and is completely free forever. Plus, it isn’t only about creating unbroken chains or streaks of success, and can be used for flexible goals.

When you create a new habit in DailyHabits, you need to set how many days of a month you want to do that activity. Your dashboard shows all your habits as well as the entire month’s calendar. Keep checking off days when you achieve your target. In the last column, DailyHabits will show the total goal days and the total achieved days so far.

DailyHabits also includes a journal element. The makers say that adding notes about your habits, whether it’s how you’re feeling or your new achievements or even misses and failures, helps to keep you on track overall. You can add unlimited habits and notes to DailyHabits, and even use it on your phone as the calendar is responsive to fit on mobile screens.

2. Trackers.gg (Web): Dashboard of Card Tiles for Different Habits

Trackers.gg is one of the most straightforward and minimalist habit tracking web apps we’ve come across. It’s completely free too, with no hidden fees, restrictions, or ads. And the responsive design means that you can use it on desktop as well as mobile just as easily.

Once you sign up, you can create as many habit goals as you want, each of which will appear as a card in your dashboard. The card itself is all you need to see and interact with. There are no other statistics or extra features.

Each habit card can be of two types: ticks (to track incremental progress in any task you’re doing) or numbers (to track numbers-based tasks like how many glasses of water you drank today). You can tap the tick or the number on the card to update your progress. A successful session gets logged on the timeline within the card itself. It couldn’t be simpler and easier.

3. Dreamfora (Android, iOS): Guided Habit Tracking Templates to Ensure Success

Let’s say your resolution is to get lean, toned, and healthy. What are the habits you need to inculcate to get to your goal? How often should you exercise, when should you add meditation, and how do you handle hydration? Dreamfora is a habit tracking app that does this heavy lifting for you with premade plans for different common habits.

Each plan has three elements: habit, task, and note. The habit portion adds a few things you’ll need to do regularly and sets the weekly schedule for them. Tasks are to-do items that are not a regular habit but something you need to get done to ensure you stay on track. 4. Youtine (Web): Create Printable Habit Trackers for Multiple Goals

There is something satisfying about taking a pen and crossing off a box in a habit tracker. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld famously said it’s how he maintained the ‘don’t break the chain’ productivity method. If you want to ditch apps, Youtine will create printable habit trackers for multiple types of habits.

Once you sign up, you can create multiple sheets, each with its own habits. Choose the month and year, give it a title and a description, and add habits from the list. Each habit has its own icon. You’ll also have to assign how much time you want to do any habit for, between 5 to 60 minutes. Finally, pick the days of the week you want to do that habit.

The sheet created will show the icon, the time, and the checkboxes for the days of the week that you have chosen. The unchosen days get greyed out. You can simply tick or cross the checkboxes, write in emojis to track your mood on the day you were successful or fill them with different information like the actual time you did the activity.

Loop tracks all data about an activity and presents it in several charts and graphs to visualize your progress over a long time. You’ll find helpful data like your longest streak or which days you most frequently do that activity.

Be sure you check out Loop’s settings for some additional cool elements. For example, you can make reminder notifications from Loop sticky, so that they can’t be swiped away till you finish the task. Or you can add ‘skip days’ to not lose your streak on a rest day for some habit.

Forming New Habits? Allow for Failures

Along with keeping your habit tracking app simple, you’ll hopefully also keep your habit goals simple. People tend to overreach or set unrealistic targets and are too harsh on themselves when they can’t meet them.

In fact, when you’re forming new habits, it’s best to set a mindset that allows for failures. Far too many habit trackers and methods focus on unbroken streaks and uncompromising routines. But if you do mess up, it’s not the end of the world. So allow for that when you’re setting the habit itself, and have a plan for how to pick yourself up and restart in case you stumble.
