Street Fighter 6 will hit the streets in June 2023.

Reading Time: 3 minutes

My second blog about Street Fighter 6. Might end up being more.

Okay, so when I set out to right this, I was gonna focus on the launch roster and game modes. But I procrastinated to where the official release date was announced during the Game Awards. So I had to mention that. Meaning this blog might be packed with information. So let's get into it with what we know.

What we know…

So far the roster is consist of main stays like Ryu, Ken, Guile, Chun-li, Blanka, E. Honda, Camay, Dee-Jay, Zangief, and Dhalsim. We’ve also got Juri and Luke from Street Fighter IV and V returning. And we’ve got new-comers like Marissa, Kimberly, Mignon, J.P., Jamie, and Lily.

Along with that you’ve got World Tour mode where you can create your own character, train with Luke Sullivan. You can create your own character, customize their move set after training, and fighting other opponents. Fighting Ground will provide the traditional fighting game experience with arcade mode, online matches, training mode, local versus battles, and more according to Capcom. Battle Hub is a multiplayer segment where players can hang out and challenge each other to fights and mini-games. Basically Battle Hub is Street Fighter 6’s online lobby.

Gameplay wise, they reformatted V gauges into ‘Drive Gauges.’ Cap com made the Drive Gauge allow more ‘creativity’ as you can perform five different techniques that’ll improve your offense or defense. These techniques are ‘Drive Impact,’ which is a strike that absorb an opponent oncoming attack. Drive Parry allows you to refill your Drive Gauge through parries. Drive Rush can allow to to close in on your opponent, and Drive Reversal allows you to perform a counter attack to escape tight situations.

Once you use these means to build your Drive Gauge, you can perform a super move in what’s called an ‘OverDrive’ technique.

Also in terms of controls, Street Fighter 6 will have accessible control type for new or casual players. This will allow easier input for special moves. There will also be classic control type for more experienced players. Learning this gave me impression that my criticisms that Capcom’s configuration of controls was heard. Though like I said in my blog, I’m not the only one with that complaint, so it wouldn’t surprise me if competitive players brought these same complaints to Capcom. And if this is true, you all have my thanks.

The conclusion…

In conclusion, Street Fighter 6 is shaping up to be one of, if not the best Street Fighter. Though given how much is going into this game, and the fact that they’re launching on four of the current platforms, I’m a tad worried the launch might be worse than Street Fighter V. It feels so ambitious that it might hurt the game, so my fingers are crossed that the launch will be a massive success. And we’ll need to see what the DLC will be. Street Fighter 6 will launch on June 2nd 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and Steam. and I hope it’s a great launch.
