The secret strategy to winning in the search.

SEO Secrets Unveiled Here

Do you want to know what are the powerful secrets behind websites, articles and videos appearing in top searches ? If yes, then you are at right place.

Introduction to SEO

It stands for Search Engine Optimization and is basically the extra steps you go through to try and get your content found in search engines.

Why is SEO Important ?

If you are creating content on the Internet that could be found by search engines (mostly blog posts or YouTube videos, although podcasting is also included in this) and you’re not optimizing them so that they have more chance to be found, you’re missing out on that potential. Being found in search is key to growth of your brand for free and allowing your content to work for you.

Ideally, your content works for you like this…

The Top 3 Search Engines in The World are…

1. Google

2. YouTube

3. Pinterest

Being found on Google & YouTube is more predictable and ‘hackable’ than Pinterest.

What Determines Your Ability to be Found in Search?

What are Keywords?

A keyword is a word or phrase that people are searching for 99% of the time, the ‘keyword’ that you'll target will actually be a key PHRASE or a long-tail keyword. So, a keyword could be ‘SEO’ but a better keyPHRASE would be ‘SEOTutorial for Beginners.’

What Keywords Should You Use?

*the secret sauce*

Note: This is not an actual, exact formula. This is the best way I can give you a visual and number marker to understand which keywords you should go after.

Authority on the Platform <_ Keyphrase Searches Per Month

EXAMPLE:

If you have 1,000 subscribers on YouTube, try to only go after key phrases that have 1,000 searches or less per month. If you have 400 visitors to your website per month, try to only go after key phrases that have 400 searches or less per month.

BRANDNEW :

If you have less than 100 visitors to your website per month or less than 500 subscribers on YouTube, stick with key phrases that have less than 500 searches per month, or even 250 searches per month if you can.

How do I Know How Many Searches per Month It Has?

Keywords Everywhere is a Chrome (and Firefox) extension that allows you to see the number of searches per month a phrase has, how much it would cost to pay for an ad with those keywords, and how much competition there is for that keyphrase/keyword.

The ‘volume’ or ‘searches per month’ should be equal to or less than your authority in the platform.

What Determines Your Authority?

There are a ton of different factors, but for the purposes of you figuring out which keywords to target:

What Should You do Once You Have Found Your Ideal Keyphrase?

Optimize your content for that phrase ! This is different based on the search platform, but let’s look at what you should do for Google/Blogging or YouTube/videos.

Blogging = Being Found on Google

SEO Checklist for Blogging

  • IDEAL KEYPHRASE: based on authority.
  • USE YOAST if you’re using self-hosted WordPress, this is a plugin that will give you a red light, yellow light, or green light for your content based on how well it thinks you’re optimizing for that keyphrase.
  • OUTBOUND LINKS: You should have at least 1 link to an outbound source in your blog post.
  • INTERNAL LINKS: Have at least 1-2 internal links to other content on your site.
  • KEYPHRASE IN INTRODUCTION: Include the keyphrase in your introduction paragraph.
  • KEYPHRASE LENGTH: Don’t pick keywords that are too short or too long.
  • KEYPHRASE DENSITY: Use the keyphrase throughout the blog post an appropriate amount of times, 5-8 is ideal.
  • KEYPHRASE IN META DESCRIPTION: Use the keyphrase in the meta description.
  • KEYPHRASE IN SUBHEADINGS: Subheadings (actual headings in your blog post format) should include the keyphrase, ideally all of them do but 2-3 is ok.
  • IMAGE ALT ATTRIBUTES: Alt title on images should include keyphrase.
  • TEXT LENGTH: The blog post itself shouldn’t be too long or too short.
  • KEYPHRASE IN TITLE: The exact match of the focus keyphrase should appear at the beginning of the SEO title.
  • KEYPHRASE IN SLUG: At least most of the words in your keyphrase should be in the ‘slug’ for the post which is the URL.
  • EMBED YOUTUBE VIDEO: If you are also creating YouTube videos for your blog posts or vice versa, embedding a ‘matching’ YouTube video with the same keyphrase will enhance your SEO on your blog post.

SEO Checklist for YouTube

Use a Tool like TubeBuddy to help you check the boxes that need to be checked to show up in search.

  • IDEAL KEYWORD/PHRASE
  • USE KEYWORD/PHRASE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TITLE
  • USE KEYWORD/PHRASE WITHIN SPOKEN PART OF THE VIDEO
  • MULTIPLE ITERATIONS OF THE KEYWORD in the first 3 lines of the video description KEYWORD/KEYPHRASE IN TAGS

NOTE: this is not nearly as important as it used to be (or as the other things on this list), but it is still worth doing!

What About Podcasting ?

[exhales loudly] Podcasting is a horse of a different color and being found via search on podcast players is very difficult because the algorithm isn’t as complex and because of user behavior.

Podcast users generally search with 1 or 2 words in podcast players rather than full sentences like on Google or YouTube, so that strategy needs to be different. and because there’s really nothing you can do except put that 1-2 words in the main part of your title on a podcast to increase your reach, it’s hard to ‘hack’ the system.

If you truly want your podcast episodes to be found in search and work for you, you should be writing an accompanying blog post and following the blogging recommendations above with the podcast episode embedded or linked in each post.

Your SEO is Good to Go !

SEO is such a powerful tool to putting your business and content in front of your people. I hope this is a super helpful tool as you grow your own SEO strategy !
