Samsung Reveals the Launch Date for the Galaxy S23

The first big smartphone release of the year is almost upon us. Samsung has confirmed that it will be launching the Galaxy S23 series on February 1st.
The unveiling will happen at the next Galaxy Unpacked event, which will take place in San Francisco at 10 AM PST. It’s the first in-person Samsung event in three years, but you’ll also be able to watch it online.
The Galaxy 23 Will Launch at Galaxy Unpacked
Galaxy Unpacked is the name given to all of Samsung’s major phone launches, and there are usually two or three big Unpacked events each year—including for the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy A5x series, and the Galaxy Flip and Fold devices.
The February 1st event is the first of 2023 and will see the launch of the Galaxy S23 series.
A lot of the details about what to expect from the Galaxy S23 have already been leaked. Samsung has also confirmed a few details like the processor and color options, and Samsung China has released a couple of teaser videos focusing on the low light capabilities of the phones’ cameras.
Among the highlights that we can expect are:
- The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset to be used in all regions, replacing Samsung’s Exynos chips.
- The S23 Ultra’s main camera to have a 200MP resolution (the other models will have 50MP cameras).
- 12GB of RAM on the Ultra, with storage up to 1TB; 8GB of RAM on the other models, with 128-256GB of storage.
- Only slightly larger batteries on each model (although the Gen 2 chip could deliver significant battery improvements).
- Possible support for iPhone-style satellite communications.
The devices will sport a few design tweaks but will be largely similar to their predecessors. SamMobile reports that the main colors will be Botanic Green, Cotton Flower, Misty Lilac, and Phantom Black, with the possibility of Gray, Light Blue, Light Green, and Red being available in select regions as well.
What Time Is the Galaxy Unpacked Event?
The Galaxy Unpacked event will be hosted from San Francisco at 10 AM PST on February 1st. This is:
- 1 PM in New York
- 6 PM in London
- 11:30 PM in India
- 5 AM in Sydney
