New Motorola Defy Satellite Link Brings Two-Way Satellite Communication to Any Smartphone

Reading Time: 2 minutes

At MWC2023, the new Motorola Defy Satellite Link is making satellite communication easier and cheaper to access.

Bullitt Group and Motorola have launched a brand-new satellite communication device at MWC2023.

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link is the latest new device in a resurgence in interest in consumer satellite communication and represents another handy option for those that need the extra communication option but don’t want to spend a fortune.

Bullitt Group’s Motorola Defy Satellite Link Launches at MWC2023

At CES2023, Bullitt Group revealed Bullitt Satellite Connect, it’s innovative two-way satellite communication that launched using one of Motorola’s Defy rugged smartphones. To use the Bullitt Satellite Connect app, you need a device with satellite communication built-in.

But now, the Motorola Defy Satellite Link enables any device with a Bluetooth connection to use satellite messaging. All you need is the Motorola Defy Satellite Link dongle.

Once the Motorola Defy Satellite Link dongle connects to your smartphone (available for Android 10 or later and iOS 14 or later), it allows you to send and receive satellite messages, share your location in a moment of emergency, and enable two-way communication with emergency services in your moment of need.

Motorola Defy Satellite Link Specs and Price

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link has a decent set of specs, making it an excellent companion for hiking and other outdoor activities.

The 600mAh will remain powered up for a few days, even more so if you only switch it on periodically or when you need to use the satellite functionality. As you’d expect, the Motorola Defy Satellite Link also comes with GPS to help pinpoint your location even if you’re not connected to a smartphone.

It also comes with IP68 water and dust resistance and has been built to the MIL-Spec 810H standard.

Finally, the satellite communication comes from a MediaTek MT6825 chip, with MediaTek being a long-time partner of Bullitt Group.

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link dongle is expected to launch in April 2023. The dongle will cost $99, though you can pick up a bundle for the dongle and a one-year subscription to the Essential Messaging plan (Bullitt Group’s satellite messaging service) with up to 30 two-way messages per month and SOS Assist starting from $149.

Bullitt Group Is Making Satellite Communication Cheaper

MediaDownloader had the opportunity to try Bullitt Group’s two-way satellite communication at CES2023, and it works extremely well. However, you might not always want to switch your smartphone, so the introduction of the Motorola Defy Satellite Link is a great option that doesn’t cost a great deal.
