Want to install apps on your Galaxy Watch or other Wear OS device when they aren’t available in the Play Store? Here’s how to sideload them.

If you’ve ever wanted to get the latest versions of legacy Android apps on your Samsung Galaxy smartwatch, sideloading apps from a third-party source is a good option. The feature has been available on Android devices for some time and you can now do it on smartwatches as well.

In this guide, we will show you how to sideload apps on your Galaxy Watch or Wear OS smartwatch.

Getting Started

Easy Fire Tools is a free app that lets you install third-party apps on your Android TV and smartwatches, which aren’t otherwise available on the Play Store. It’s a great tool for those who want to get the most out of their devices by installing some amazing and useful Android apps.

Once you have the APK file of the app you want downloaded and set up on your smartphone, you’ll need to sign up for the beta version of the Easy Tools app from Google Play Store, so you can start using third-party apps on your smartphone.

How to Sideload Apps Using ADB Debugging via Easy Fire Tools

Let’s take a look at how you can sideload apps on your Wear OS or Galaxy Watch using ADB debugging by following the steps outlined below. You need to install Easy Fire Tools on your phone before you begin, and you can download the APK files for the apps Watch apps you want to install from a site such as APK Mirror.

  1. Make sure your smartwatch and smartphone are connected over the same Wi-Fi connection.
  2. On your smartwatch, swipe up to access the app drawer. Navigate to Settings > About watch > Software info.
  3. Tap on Software version four times to enable Developer options on your Galaxy Watch. You should see the Developer options appear in the Settings dashboard now.
  4. Tap Developer options, scroll down, and enable ADB Debugging, Debug over Wi-Fi, and Wireless debugging. Note the IP address available under the Debug over Wi-Fi section.
  5. Open the Easy Fire Tools app on your phone. Tap Agree, and navigate to the left menu. Go to Settings > IP Address.
  6. Replace the default IP address with the IP address from that of the Galaxy Watch (step 4) in the field, starting with 192.168.x.xx You’ll only need to enter the numbers before ‘:5555’. Tap OK to connect.
  7. Next, tap on the plug icon in the top right corner. You’ll be prompted to allow debugging on your smartwatch. Tap OK.
  8. You’ll see a pop-up screen on your smartphone. Tap Continue. The plug icon will turn now green.
  9. In the phone app, you’ll see two separate tabs—Installed Apps and Custom APK file. To install apps that are present on your smartphone, simply select the available apps under the Installed Apps section. Tap Yes to start the installation process on your watch.

You can try to sideload apps on your Android phone. You can also download third-party applications on your Android TV.

How to Install Custom APK Files on Your Samsung Galaxy Watch or Wear OS Watch

You can also install a third-party app APK file you might have downloaded for your use. To do this, follow the steps listed below:

  1. On your smartphone, download the APK file of the app you wish to use.
  2. Go to Settings > Biometrics and security > Install unknown apps.
  3. Toggle on the slider for the APK file.
  4. Next, open the Easy Fire Tools app and tap the Custom APK File tab. Tap on the Select file button and select the APK file you have downloaded. Tap Install to start the process.

Install Android Apps on Your Wear OS Watch With Ease

As we saw, it’s pretty easy to sideload apps onto your Samsung watch. The only real limiting factor is the amount of storage available on your watch.
