How to Manage Cloud Data on Your PlayStation 5

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Do you need more storage space on your PlayStation 5 console? Here’s how you can get extra space by syncing your PS5 data to the Cloud.

Your PlayStation 5’s storage space is a precious commodity. The base model comes with a very limited amount of storage straight out of the box. That’s why it’s crucial to make the most of your storage to make your gaming experience go from good to great.

The PlayStation 5 has a whole Cloud available for you to store and retrieve data from when you need it. So why not make use of it? If you are looking for more ways to increase your PS5’s storage space, utilizing the Cloud is a great place to start.

How to Automatically Sync Your PS5 Data to the Cloud

One of the first things you should do with your PS5 is set up automatic updates to the Cloud. Ensuring your console syncs your data with the Cloud whenever you close a game or put your console into rest mode takes all the hard work out of managing your Cloud data.

Sometimes life gets busy, and it’s easy to forget the most important of things, let alone remembering to frequently update your PS5 save data to the Cloud. Thankfully, setting up your PS5 so it backups itself to the Cloud is incredibly easy and can save you a lot of headaches further down the road.

The first thing you need to do to let your PlayStation 5 automatically update to the Cloud is to enable it to use the internet while in rest mode. Here’s how you can set that up:

  1. Open your PS5’s Settings.
  2. Head to System.
  3. Navigate to Power Saving.
  4. Press Features Available in Rest Mode.
  5. Enable Stay Connected to the Internet.

Once you have enabled that setting, you can set up your automatic Cloud syncs.

  1. Navigate back to Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
  3. Select Saved Data (PS4) or Saved Data (PS5), depending on what type of games you play.
  4. For PS5 games, select Sync Saved Data.
  5. Then enable Auto Sync Saved Data.
  6. If you selected PS4, enable Auto-Upload.

Your PS5 will now do all the hard work for you, so you can just focus on your game. Backing up your data to the Cloud is one way to get it off your console, but you can also back up your PlayStation 5 data onto a physical drive if you prefer a more tangible storage solution.

How to Upload Data to the Cloud on Your PS5

You can also bypass automatic Cloud backups and manage your Cloud data manually. It does take a little longer but gives you more control over what and when your data is uploaded to the Cloud.

  1. Head to your console’s Settings.
  2. Select Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
  3. Select Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4), depending on your preferences.
  4. Select Console Storage.
  5. Make sure you are in the Upload to Cloud Storage section and scroll until you find the game you are searching for.
  6. Press Upload.

Your data will then upload to the Cloud.

How to Download Cloud Data to Your PS5

To retrieve saved data from the Cloud, follow the same instructions listed above until you have chosen Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4). Then instead of selecting Console Storage, select Cloud Storage. From the Download to Console Storage section, pick your title and confirm your choice by pressing Download.

Your Cloud data will then download from the Cloud, and you can start playing your old save file. This feature is handy if you have reinstalled a game and don’t want to start it all over again.

How to Delete Cloud Data From Your PS5

If you feel that your Cloud storage is getting a little cluttered, and you want to permanently delete something, you can do so by following the instructions below.

  1. Open your console’s Settings.
  2. Head to Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
  3. Select Saved Data (PS5) or Saved Data (PS4).
  4. Select Cloud Storage.
  5. Scroll across to Delete and search through your games until you reach the one you are looking for.
  6. Confirm your choices by pressing Delete.

Be careful when following these steps. Ensure that you picked the right game because you don’t want to accidentally delete data you actually want to keep.

Make the Most of Your PS5’s Storage by Storing Data on the Cloud

Using the Cloud is a convenient feature that allows you to store your game saves without taking up precious space on your PS5. That way, you can ensure that your game progress is backed up online, ensuring you don’t lose anything even if you remove a game from your console.
