How to Check if Someone Left or Was Removed From a WhatsApp Group
It used to be the case that if someone left a WhatsApp group or was removed by an administrator, the fact might easily have slipped your attention. The group would have a nondescript service-message-type update saying that someone left or was removed from a group. It was easy to miss in a sea of messages.
But thanks to an update, you can now look up the people that left or were removed from a WhatsApp group. Here’s how.
- Open WhatsApp and click/tap on a specific group.
- When you are on the group chat screen, tap on the group’s name again at the top.
- Scroll down to the section where the group’s participants are listed.
- Scroll all the way to the bottom of this list. If there are many participants, you should see a View all option. Tap on that and scroll to the bottom of the complete list.
- At the bottom, if someone has left the WhatsApp group or been removed, you’ll see View past participants. Tap on that option.
- This should surface a list of all the former group members who either left or were removed from the group, with information on when they departed the group.
WhatsApp will only show you a list of people who were removed or left in the past 60 days. Also, you’re not likely to see the information of people who left or were removed from a WhatsApp group before this feature was included.
You’ll also still see their name (beside their number), as they set it on the app, so you know exactly who it is, even if you haven’t added them as a contact yet. Other useful features introduced to WhatsApp include creating a WhatsApp community, setting up a call link, and even sending yourself a message on the app.
It’s Easier to Know Who Left Your WhatsApp Group
With this added functionality, WhatsApp has made it easier to find out who has left or was removed from a group. Keep in mind though, that if you wait too long to look it up, or realize too late, the information will vanish into the technological aether.
