How to Change the Language of Individual Apps on a Samsung Phone

Android 13 introduced a quite useful new feature: app languages. With app languages, you can change the language of individual apps, instead of having to do it system-wide as before. This is best for bilinguals who often use their first language in messaging apps as opposed to English which is the default option.
Let’s see how to change the language for only specific apps on a Samsung phone.
How to Set App Languages on Samsung
The process to set app languages on Samsung is slightly different from other Android phones due to the difference in system navigation. Firstly, to use the feature on your Galaxy phone, you need to be running One UI 5.
You can check our guide on when your Samsung phone will get One UI 5 or go to Settings > Software update > Download and install to see if there’s an update for your device. Once updated, follow these steps below to set app languages:
- Go to Settings > General management > App languages.
- You’ll see a list of apps that support language selection. Select your desired app or use the search tool in the top right corner.
- Select the language you want to use from the list. The new language is now set; go ahead and open the app to see the changes.
- If you want to go back to the default language, simply select System default.
You’ll notice that the number of apps that you can select languages for is pretty limited. That’s because developers of most third-party apps don’t yet support multiple languages.
As the app language feature becomes more popular, more developers will hop on board and update their apps to support common languages. Until then, you can use Google Translate in any app on Android to convert languages.

Set Languages for Individual Apps on Samsung
Android 13 is a pretty minor update and there’s not much to get excited about. Most of the new features in Android 13 aim to refine the experience of Android 12 and remove bugs.
That said, the new app languages feature is pretty useful if you’re multilingual. You can use WhatsApp in Hindi, Chrome in English, and Google Maps in Spanish if you find that more helpful.
