1. Block Subreddits Using the Old Reddit
You might not see the value in every subreddit you come across. One of the ways you can block specific subreddits is by using the old version of Reddit. Fortunately, the old Reddit still works. Here’s how you can access it and block subreddits.
- Open a new browser tab.
- Go to old.reddit.com, and sign in to your account.
- Head to your r/all feed by clicking on All in the top menu.
- Put the specific subreddits you want to exclude in the filter subreddit box on the right side of the screen. After typing in each subreddit, click on the plus icon next to the box.
- Once you’re done adding subreddits, refresh the page.
2. Use a Website Blocking Extension
If you’re not keen on using old Reddit, you still have another option. You can use a website blocking extension like BlockSite. To perform this task on Chrome, follow these instructions:
- Add the BlockSite extension.
- Head to the subreddit you want to block.
- Click on the extension’s icon in the top-right corner, then click on BlockSite.
- In the pop-up that appears, click on Block this site.
Blocking a Subreddit on Firefox
BlockSite works slightly differently on Firefox versus Chrome. Follow these steps:
- Install the BlockSite add-on.
- Head to the subreddit you want to block, and copy the link in the address bar.
- Select the BlockSite icon in the top left corner of the page.
- In the box that appears, paste the link for the subreddit you want to block, and select OK.
3. Use Reddit Premium to Block Subreddits
If you’re not keen on using a website blocking extension, or using the old Reddit, the last option you have is to use Reddit’s premium subscription to block specific subreddits.
The option to block subreddits is one of the features of the premium subscription plan, but comes at a cost.
