Everything We Know About the iPhone 15 So Far

A new year, a new iPhone. That’s how it has always been, right? And staying true to that trend, talk of the iPhone 15 has been circulating even before the iPhone 14 came out.
While nothing is set in stone, there have been certain rumors much more promising than others. So, we’ve gathered all potential leaks and information about the iPhone 15 that we know so far.
Release Date and Lineup
The iPhone’s release date is one thing we can almost always predict, as Apple typically holds an event in September every year. If things go according to plan, we will see the new iPhone 15 lineup in September 2023.
Speaking of lineup, what will it be like for the iPhone 15? As far as we know, Apple is planning to follow the same lineup as the iPhone 14, which will feature an iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
However, industry speculators believe Apple could launch a brand new iPhone 15 Ultra in addition to the usual models. Will the iPhone 15 Ultra be a unique addition to the lineup, or will the iPhone 15 Pro Max be renamed to iPhone 15 Ultra instead? We’ll have to stay tuned to find out.
Price
Rumors of the iPhone 15 Ultra are also followed by a significant price hike for the model. Whether this increase (if true) will apply to the entire lineup is still a mystery.
Since the US didn’t see a price hike with the iPhone 14 while other countries did, some analysts argue that an increase in prices is inevitable, at least in the US.
Design: Will the iPhone 15 Feature USB-C?
While we won’t know the exact details and measurements until we’ve actually seen the iPhone 15, there are some solid speculations about design changes in the new lineup.
According to industry speculators, the notch will possibly be eradicated from all the iPhone models, replaced by the Dynamic Island we’ve seen in the iPhone 14 Pro models. Along with that, some sources also mention rounded edges and a titanium body for the iPhone 15.
Despite that, the biggest design change we’re all expecting to see is the inclusion of a USB-C port to comply with EU rules. While USB-C has several advantages over Lightning, Apple could possibly use different types of USB-C—varying in transfer speed—to set the Pro models apart.
Some leaks also hinted at capacitive volume and power buttons with haptic feedback instead of physical ones, but we think that’s unlikely to happen.
Camera
Apple has never failed to improve its camera features with every new iPhone lineup, and we’re hoping this time will be no different.
We’ll dive straight in for the big guns; speculation of a new periscope lens in the iPhone 15 has been running rampant across multiple platforms. The periscope lens will offer zoom capabilities like never before. While the current iPhone 14 Pro models have a 3x zoom, the periscope lens may have up to 10x zoom, according to industry sources.
As always, Apple saves its best features for the Pro models, meaning if the new lens is incorporated, it will most likely be for those more expensive variants.
Processor and eSIM
We have no information on performance improvements, but the iPhone 15 will likely get the new A17 Bionic processor. We’re unsure whether the entire line will be equipped with the expected A17 or just the Pro models. If it is the latter, the standard iPhone 15 models will likely pack the same A16 chip as the iPhone 14 Pro.
Moving on to eSIMs, you might be wondering if the iPhone 15 lineup will be eSIM only like the iPhone 14 models. While we have no official information, it’s safe to assume that the iPhone 15 models sold in the United States will continue to be eSIM only. Some rumors claim the iPhone 15 models sold internationally will retain the physical SIM slot.
