Do You Prefer to Call, Text, or Video Call Your Friends?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

When you want to catch up with a friend or family member, which method of communication do you choose?

Modern smartphones can do much more than simply make a phone call. Of course, you still have the option of calling friends and family on your smartphone, but you can also send a quick text message or make a more personal video call.

Is one method of contacting people superior to the others? Probably not. Each method has its perks, and the one we use most often simply comes down to personal preference.

Calling someone can be a quick way to get a question answered or discuss something important. Almost everyone with a smartphone has unlimited minutes for phone calls as well. However, many people find it difficult to end a phone conversation, so it ends up dragging on unnecessarily.

Just like calling, texting can be a great way to get a quick response from someone. This is especially true if you know they’re in a situation where they can’t answer their phone, like at the doctor’s office or in class.

Plus, people often see answering a text as less intimidating than answering a phone call. It’s usually less time-intensive, and there’s always the option to not respond.

Unfortunately, texts can easily be forgotten. Have you ever opened a text from someone, not responded, and then forgotten all about it because you didn’t see the notification anymore? You’re certainly not alone.

Video calling usually isn’t the way to go if you want speedy communication, but many people prefer it because it’s more personal. While native apps like the simple FaceTime on iPhone make video calling easy, there are a ton of video calling apps available that work across platforms and with little setup. Video calling lets you see your loved one’s face and usually helps you stay focused on the conversation.

Which Do You Prefer? Texting, Calling, or Video Calling?

When you find yourself wanting to contact a friend or family member, which method do you gravitate toward? Do you opt for the classic phone call, a speedy text message, or a more personal video call where you can see each other’s faces?
