Discover a variety of stunning moving backgrounds in CSS! These backgrounds are quick and easy to add to your site, and I’ll be including useful tools and generators too!

Creating Moving Backgrounds In CSS

Welcome! In this guide, we're going to be taking a look at a variety of moving backgrounds in CSS! We'll be taking a look at lots of different types, including animated gradients, moving shapes and much more.

Creating a dynamic, moving background shouldn't be too difficult, since there are lots of resources out there to help generate these types of animated backgrounds.

This type of background can add a dynamic element to any site, and would be a wonderful addition overall.

Let's get started!

1. Gradientify

Gradientify is a super cool library for creating animated gradient effects.

The Codepen demo is also linked from the NPM page too, so be sure to take a look at this to see the library in action! There are three gradients in this demo, and you'll find a preview of the Codepen demo below!

I'd definitely recommend trying this library out, as well as trying out different gradients and so forth to see what works best for your site.

2. Isotope UI

Isotope UI has lots of stunning animated backgrounds available. If you're hoping to add a particle background to your site, then I would recommend making use of a high-performance particle library instead of CSS, since a particle library would offer better performance and would be faster to implement overall. Rather than creating the keyframes in CSS, and so forth, why not make use of a pre-built library that handles the animation logic for you?

Isotope UI has lots of backgrounds that are compatible with particle libraries including the popular TsParticles and Particles.js libraries.

If you would like to implement some moving shapes, then CSS and keyframes could be used instead of a particle library. However for high-performance rendering, and for animations with lots of particles (such as the examples shown above), then I would recommend using a particle library instead.

The backgrounds from Isotope UI are very quick and easy to set up overall, and using a particle library will help reduce development time also.

Overall, there's an excellent set of particle effects in the background pack from Isotope UI, and I'd definitely recommend taking a look if you're interested!

3. Bubbles

This super cool library, available on GitHub, has a whole variety of stunning bubble backgrounds to check out!

These particle effects can be an excellent way to engage the user and help increase the time spent on-site too. I'd definitely recommend trying out the different effects and animations available on your site.

The official site has a demo, which showcases the various backgrounds available, and you'll find a screenshot of it below.

4. Moving Squares

Another stunning background that's available with Isotope UI consists of moving squares that rise upwards.

You can see an example of this in the preview below, which showcases the background in action!

Variations of this backdrop could be created by updating the gradient colors. For instance, you could try out a warm palette consisting of pink and orange colors. Be sure to try out lots of different styles and combinations to see what works best for your site!

5. Animated Gradient

You can use the Granim.js library for creating animated gradients, which would look great in a variety of contexts, including login forms, signup screens and much more.

This library makes it super quick and easy to add cool gradients to your projects.

There are lots of potential gradients you could create including those with warm tones such as fuschia and orange, as well as those with cool tones, like icy blues and forest greens.

6. Moving Shapes

If you'd like to create a background with moving shapes, then I would recommend this useful tool, which you can use to generate great backgrounds for your website. There are cool customization options available too, including options for adjusting the background color, number of shapes and so forth.

There are also other backgrounds available, which I'd definitely recommend taking a look at! You can navigate to these other demos by clicking on the ‘Demo 3’ link at the top of the sidebar on the left for instance.

You could use this background generator to create cool backdrops for login pages, signup screens and much more.

Hopefully You've Discovered Some Great Background Ideas!

Thanks very much for reading, hopefully you've discovered some fantastic moving backgrounds that you can add to your site right now!

We've taken a look at a variety of types of background, including animated gradients, rising bubbles and many more. If you'd like to add particle effects to your site, then I would recommend making use of a particle library instead, since it offers better performance than doing so with CSS.
