6 Awesome Features of the Super Fast Kia EV6 GT

Reading Time: 4 minutes

It’s super fast, looks great, and… it’s a Kia EV?

Kia is one of the most improved automotive brands of recent years. They hit numerous milestones in their ICE lineup, and recently Kia has also ventured into the EV space—and produced some popular EVs, too.

Not content with simply fitting in and selling boring electric vehicles, Kia is now exploring the performance EV segment. The EV6 GT is an insanely fast EV from Kia that will have you rethinking the definition of a sportscar.

What Is the Kia EV6 GT?

The Kia EV6 GT is the hottest version of Kia’s regular EV6 electric vehicle. The EV6 produces 320 horsepower and 446 ft-lbs of torque in its dual-motor configuration.

This makes the EV6 a very fast car, but the EV6 GT takes it a step further with its 576 horsepower and 545 ft-lbs of torque. The EV6 GT is better across the line in terms of performance, but the range does suffer drastically.

Kia says the Wind AWD trim can go 282 miles on a full charge, while the GT can only do 206. This is a huge sacrifice in range for performance’s sake. Regardless, for those shopping for an EV6, the extra performance might be worth it.

1. Free Charging With Electrify America

The Kia EV6 is one of a handful of EVs that include free charging. According to the Electrify America Newsroom, when you purchase a Kia EV6 GT, it is eligible for 1,000 kWh of free charging from Electrify America stations.

Kia EV6 GT buyers can access 1,000 kWh of complimentary charging through the Electrify America app

This is quite a bit of free juice from Electrify America, although it’s not quite as generous as the years of free charging that other EV makers include with select electric vehicles.

Regardless, it’s nice to have free charging on the super-fast Electrify America network, especially because you can recharge your Kia EV6 GT from 10% to 80% in an ultra-quick time of 18 minutes. Road trips in the EV6 GT are a possibility, although the 206-mile range is a bit lackluster.

2. 576 Horsepower Dual-Motors

The main reason you would purchase the GT version of the Kia EV6 is the added go-fast that Kia has engineered. The regular dual-motor configuration tops off at 320 horsepower, which should be plenty for most people.

But the GT takes it up to a completely different stratosphere with its 576 screaming horsepower. The EV6 GT is also outfitted with an electronic limited-slip differential to take full advantage of all that power.

Kia means business with the GT version of its attractive crossover. With this much power on tap, the EV6 GT will cement itself among the select group of performance EVs that can go toe to toe with internal combustion sportscars.

Another great thing about the EV6 GT is that it doesn’t look all that different from the standard car, so most people will be unaware that you’re driving the ultra-fast version.

3. 0–60 MPH in 3.4 Seconds

Kia is very proud that the EV6 GT is faster than select Lamborghini and Ferrari models on the sprint to 60 MPH. One of the greatest things about electric vehicles is that they’ve made insane performance (at least in terms of acceleration) very accessible to the masses.

Right now, the quickest cars on the road are EVs, and they outrun vehicles that cost way more simply due to the instant response of the electric motors. Formerly, if you wanted to experience a 3.4-second run to 60 MPH, you needed a supercar, but now you can purchase an electric Kia that will do just that.

Electric vehicles have truly opened the doors of performance to many more people. The only drawback left for EVs to overcome is the added weight. However, once batteries start to slim down, these performance EVs will truly begin to shine.

4. V2D (Vehicle to Device) Functionality

The EV6 GT isn’t necessarily one of the best overlanding EVs you can buy, but it has a surprising feature that will make it a standout if you ever go camping.

The V2D functionality allows the EV6 GT to power your peripherals with power from its battery. Kia says the vehicle can supply up to 3.6kW of power for whatever you want to connect to the vehicle’s battery, as long as the consumption is below the max allowed by the vehicle.

Details like these are the reason electric vehicles are superior in most ways to traditional cars. You’re probably not going to power a full camping site from your EV6 GT, but having the ability to draw power from your car in an emergency is a great luxury to have.

5. Special Bucket Seats

The regular Kia EV6 interior is very nice. It features the prerequisite large touchscreen that stretches from the driver’s side all the way to the passenger area and very nice touches like a floating center console.

But, the EV6 GT takes it a step further with many interior touches that set it apart. The biggest difference is the amazing bucket seats with contrasting green details and stitching.

They hug the driver in place, and with the speeds the Kia EV6 GT is capable of producing, seats like these are a necessity. Kia outdid themselves with the EV6 GT’s racing-style seats, but the fact that they’re manually operated might put people off, especially considering the EV6 GT’s price, which isn’t cheap.

Honestly, manually operated seats shouldn’t be a deal breaker, especially because power seats are mostly a gimmick. They’re slow and cumbersome, and they add weight. But many people will find this omission annoying.

6. Drift Mode

The main idea of vehicles like the EV6 GT is that you can have fun with them. But, at the end of the day, what’s the point of buying the sportiest version of a vehicle if it isn’t really fun to drive? In this regard, Kia had the buyer’s in mind when engineering the EV6 GT.

Kia included a Drift Mode in the EV6 GT, which is sure to draw plenty of smiles from drivers and passengers alike. Drift mode isn’t really a new phenomenon in the car world, but it’s still really cool to see Kia getting in on the fun with the inclusion of this neat feature, especially on an EV.

The EV6 GT Is a Great Performance EV

The performance EV segment is full of great choices, but the EV6 GT definitely makes a case for itself. The vehicle’s form factor also sets it apart, giving practicality and performance.

If you’re in the market for a practical EV that can truly hang with the best of them in terms of acceleration, the EV6 GT is an awesome choice.
