What are LAN and WAN?

LAN stands for Local Area Network, which means that all the computers are in a small area and are connected. WAN stands for Wide Area Network, which means when a network stretches across a huge area like a city or a country. A WAN is not restricted to a geographical location and connects many LANs. The technology is high-speed and is comparatively costly. The internet is an example of a worldwide public WAN.

What is WLAN?

WLAN stands for Wireless Local Area Network, which means the computers are connected, not through telephone wires or cables, but through wireless signals. WLAN uses radio waves for communication between computers. A central transmitting and receiving station called the router controls the single computers on the network. WLANs can be used for both private networks, and internal company networks.

‘HTTP’ stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. An ISP maintains cabling and network services to transfer and deliver web content to those paying the subscription fee. The price depends upon where you live. URL stands for uniform resource locator. A URL is the address of a web page. Each page has its unique web address or URL. the URL is made up of 3 parts, the first is the protocol, the second is the domain name, and the third is the path at which the web page is located on the web server.

Every computer uses a unique identifier to send data to specific computers on a network. This identifier is in the form of a numerical address called its IP or Internet Protocol address. It comprises four numbers separated by dots. A network of computers called domain name servers translate the numbers into their corresponding domain names and vice versa.
