Xiaomi 13 Series Launches at MWC 2023 With Leica Cameras

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Xiaomi’s latest smartphone range debuted at MWC 2023. The 13 series goes big on cameras, and the Lite model is available worldwide for the first time.

Xiaomi’s new 13 Series of smartphones launched at MWC 2023. You’ll find three models across the range, catering for different budgets. From Leica approved cameras to Lite devices available globally for the first time, this new smartphone series has options with all the bells and whistles you’d expect.

We take a look at Xiaomi’s new 13 Series, and all the different models available.

The New Xiaomi 13 Series Launches at MWC 2023

Starting with the standard Xiaomi 13, you’ll find a 6.4-inch flat body equipped with a 2400×1080 resolution AMOLED display and slim bezels. This display boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, supports HDR content, and can max out at 1,900 nits. Powering this is a decent-sized 4,500mAh battery that supports 67W wired charging, or 50W wireless charging.

Also inside, you’ll find 2023’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. Turning to the rear, Xiaomi packs a 50MP main camera, 10MP 3.2x telephoto sensor, and 12MP ultrawide lens into its triple camera array. It’s the same hardware offering as the Galaxy S23 from Samsung. These cameras are tuned by expert camera brand, Leica. You get exclusive camera modes designed to maintain accuracy or boost vibrancy, or can opt for classic Leica filters.

With the 13 Pro, Xiaomi ramps things up a little more. It’s a larger, 6.7-inch handset with a curved display and body. You’ll set your eyes on a sharper, 3200×1440 WQHD+ resolution AMOLED display, which also packs a 120Hz refresh rate you can toggle on or off, Pro HDR support, and 1,900 nits of brightness.

It rocks the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor inside with Wi-Fi 7 support, but scales the RAM up to 12GB. The battery’s also bigger at 4,820mAh, and supports ultra fast 120W wired charging (that can juice the phone up to full in just 19 minutes) or 50W wireless charging.

Arguably the biggest difference with the Xiaomi 13 Pro is the camera system. It also features a main sensor, 3.2x telephoto snapper, and ultrawide lens, but boasts 50MP across each of the cameras. There are plenty of ways to get started with macro photography, if you want to start playing with this new feature. The main lens is a one-inch sensor, which means it’ll perform very well at natural depth effect. The same Leica shooting modes and filters are available, too.

There are plenty of other software features coming to both devices. This includes Digital Car Key–a collaboration with Google and BMW to bring you controls to unlock, lock, and start your connected car. It’s pretty similar to Apple’s Car Key feature that lives in the Wallet app.

Both the standard Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are available from March 14, 2023 from €999 and €1299, respectively. The former boasts black, white, and green color options, while the latter only comes in ceramic black or ceramic white. But there’s another addition to the 13 Series that’s gone global this year.

Xiaomi’s Lite Model Goes Global for the First Time

Previously only available in India, Xiaomi is making its Civi 2 smartphone available globally with a rebrand to the 13 Lite. This mid-ranger allows you to score some flagship-quality features for a more affordable price.

It’s between the standard 13 and 13 Pro models in size, clocking in at 6.5-inches. The AMOLED display still supports a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR content, but only features Full HD+ resolution up to 1,000 nits of brightness. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It’s still one of the latest processors, but isn’t quite as fast. It’ll handle day-to-day activities remarkably.

Powering this is a 4,500mAh battery with support for 67W turbo wired charging, with a 40-minute charge time to 100%. There’s no wireless charging available to juice up this smartphone without a cable. And, as you’d expect, things are different with the camera, too. The rear boasts a 50MP main, 20MP ultrawide, and 2MP macro array, but without the Leica collaboration.

Turn over to the front for a dual selfie-snapper with a 32MP lens and 8MP lens for added depth. Thanks to the two cameras, you can expect to find a Dynamic Island-esque cut-out, without any added software functionality. These cameras also allow for a Dynamic Framing feature, that will automatically crop out to fit more people into the frame.

Xiaomi’s more affordable member of the 13 Series is available as of 26 February from €499, in either green, black, or pink. As we mentioned, this is the first time that global customers can get their hands on this device.

Xiaomi Has a Phone for Everyone With the 13 Series

With the new 13 Series, Xiaomi has a smartphone that caters to everyone in its line-up. Whether you’re looking for flagship-level bells and whistles or a more affordable price, there’s an option for you.

Xiaomi’s latest smartphones join the camera-focused trend for new devices, which seems to be the big marketing push for most new options. There’s plenty more to come at MWC 2023, so we’ll see how the 13 Series stacks up against the competition.
