Why You Can’t Put a Link in Your TikTok Bio
Reading Time: 4 minutesYou’ve seen other channels add a link on their TikTok Bio, but how come you can’t? Here’s the reason why and how you can solve it.
TikTok has become a powerful marketing platform for businesses, allowing brands to show off their creative side and connecting them with many highly engaged and passionate users.
In 2020, we saw the launch of TikTok’s dedicated TikTok for Business platform. Since then, brands have had access to some fantastic marketing and advertising features, including—you guessed it—the ability to add a clickable website link to their bio.
Here’s what to know about adding a link to your TikTok bio, why some users can’t, and what you need to do to add a link to yours.
Why Can’t I Add a Link to My TikTok Bio?
If you cannot add a clickable website link to your TikTok bio, there could be a couple of reasons.
1. You Don’t Have a Business Account
The website link feature is only currently available for TikTok business account users. Check to see if you have a business account.
2. You Have Fewer Than 1,000 Followers
In January 2022, TikTok released an update preventing business accounts with fewer than 1,000 followers from adding a link to their bio. This update was designed to avoid spam.
3. The Website Link Feature Isn’t Available in Your Country Yet
Finally, if you meet the requirements above and still can’t access the website link feature, then it may be because you haven’t completed the business registration process yet. Business accounts are currently available in most countries, but the features included may vary.
How to Add a Clickable Link to Your TikTok Bio
To add a link to your TikTok bio, you first need to make sure you’ve got a business account. The website link feature is only available on business TikTok accounts, and you’ll also need to have at least 1000 followers. If you need a larger following, you should look into ways to get more followers on TikTok.
How to Change to a Business TikTok Account
To change your personal account to a business account, head to your TikTok profile and tap the menu icon in the top right-hand corner of your screen. Go to Settings and Privacy, and then select Account. Then, you’ll see the option to Switch to Business Account. Simply choose the option and then follow the instructions.
How to Add Your Website to TikTok for Business
Once you have a business TikTok account, head back to your TikTok profile and tap Edit Profile. Here, if your account meets the requirements, you’ll see the option to Add your Website. Type in the link you want to appear in your TikTik bio, and then press Save.
Workarounds to Add a Website Link to Your Bio
If you don’t want to switch to a business account, have fewer than 1000 followers, or the website link feature isn’t available in your country yet, then a couple of workarounds may help you get your link in front of your audience.
1. Add a Non-Clickable Link to Your TikTok Bio
While it may not allow users to click straight to your link from TikTok, your followers can still copy a non-clickable link from your bio. Simply head into your profile and tap Edit Profile to add a non-clickable link to a personal TikTok or business TikTok bio. Select your Bio and then type in your link. Tap Save, and your link will now feature in your bio. You can direct your audience to your link by adding it to your TikTok Q&A section or mentioning it at the end of your videos.
2. Link TikTok to Your Instagram
Another way to direct your followers to your website is by connecting your TikTok profile to your Instagram. Instagram makes it easier to add a link to your bio, so your audience can access your website there instead. To connect TikTok to your Instagram account, go to your profile and tap Edit Profile. From there, scroll down to the Social section and tap Add Instagram to your profile.
Follow the login instructions, and you’re good to go. Your TikTok followers can now follow you on Instagram and see your Instagram Reels.
Can You Add Two Website Links to Your TikTok Bio?
At present, you can only add one website link to your business TikTok bio using the link feature, but hope is not lost! If you want to add more than one link to your TikTok bio, you can create a Linktree and then add your Linktree link to your bio in place of your website. This will allow you to house multiple links in one place, perfect for businesses that need to direct traffic to different locations.
Is TikTok Shaping The Future Of Advertising?
With more than 1 billion users, and the ability to make a brand go viral, TikTok is shaping up to be THE platform for business advertising. Whether you have the website link feature or not, there’s so much that brands can do on TikTok—who knows where the platform will be a couple of years from now.
