1. All Quiet on the Western Front
This historical drama is set during World War I and tells the story of a young German soldier’s experiences on the western front. A German-language film written and directed by Edward Berger. This film was nominated for nine awards, including Germany’s submission for consideration of Best International Feature Film and Best Adapted Screenplay. At the time of writing, this film is available on Netflix.
2. Avatar: The Way of Water
A science fiction film set years after the original Avatar film following on with the story of Jake and Neytiri. James Cameron directed this film featuring returning and new cast. This film is up for four other awards, including Best Production Design and Best Visual Effects.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the Avatar sequel is only available exclusively in theaters now, but it will eventually be available on Disney+. You can add it to your Disney+ watchlist and let the platform notify you once it’s available.
3. The Banshees of Inisherin
A tragicomedy set in Ireland during the 1920s during the Irish Civil War following between two long-time friends when one abruptly cools to the relationship. The cast and crew scored nine nominations, including Best Actor for Colin Farrell and Best Original Screenplay. You can stream it on HBO Max or buy or rent the movie on YouTube.
4. Elvis
This is Baz Luhrmann’s biopic about the iconic life and career of Elvis Presley from his meteoric rise in the 1950s. This film, which is available on HBO Max, will show you a different perspective on Elvis’ life and show you how he became the icon we know today. Besides Best Picture, this film has been nominated for seven other awards, including Best Actor for Austin Butler and Best Cinematography.
5. Everything Everywhere All at Once
As IMDB describes it, this is a sci-fi comedy following a Chinese American woman who must save her existence by exploring other ‘universes and connecting with the lives she could have led.’ This film has been nominated for 11 awards, including ‘Best Actress’ for Michelle Yeoh and ‘Best Original Screenplay.’

6. The Fabelmans
Steven Spielberg’s nostalgic film set in Arizona in a post-World War II era is about a teen who aspires to be a filmmaker. It’s nominated for seven awards, including Best Actress for Michelle Williams and Best Original Screenplay.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, this film isn’t available on any streaming service, but you can still buy it on Amazon or AMC theatres on Demand.
7. Tár
A classical-music-themed psychological drama following a fictional composer Lydia Tár who is the first female director of a German orchestra. It’s up for six nominations, including Best Actress for Cate Blanchett and Best Cinematography. You can stream this movie on Peacock or buy it or rent it on YouTube.
8. Top Gun: Maverick
This is a movie that probably needs to introduction. Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to Top Gun, which was released in 1986. Decades later, after the events of the first film, Maverick leads the next generation of Top Gun pilots on a mission. It has six nominations, including Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Visual Effects. At the time of writing, you can stream this movie on Paramount+. Of course, if you really want to own this movie, you can buy it on YouTube.
9. Triangle of Sadness
A dark comedy exploring social standing and power dynamics following a model and influencer couple who were invited to join a luxurious cruise that takes an unexpected twist. It’s up for three nominations, including Best Directing and Best Original Screenplay.
At the time of writing, this movie isn’t available on any streaming service, but you can still buy it on Amazon Video, YouTube, or AMC Theatres on Demand.
10. Women Talking
This drama follows a group of women in an isolated religious community coming to terms with their faith and lives. If you’re looking for a moving film that will keep you hooked from beginning to end, this movie is definitely for you.
While there are many ways to stream new movie releases, this film isn’t available to stream, buy, or rent online. At the time of writing, the only way to watch it is by going to your favorite movie theater. Of course, that might change eventually, so be sure to use an app to search all streaming services at once and set alerts for when this film is available online.
