What to expect from Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked February livestream
Reading Time: 2 minutesNew phones, laptops and not a lot else.
Samsung’s having a big blowout device reveal soon, but the element of surprise might be lost.
The first edition of Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked livestream series for 2023 is set to happen at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Feb. 1.
Samsung hasn’t officially told anyone what we might see at the event, but all signs point to, well, things you probably could’ve predicted on your own if you follow tech news at all.
But if you’re not a Samsung enthusiast, here’s what you can reasonably expect from Galaxy Unpacked for February 2023.
Galaxy S23 Ultra
Around this time a year ago, Samsung showed off the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra smartphones. Every rumor points to the follow-up getting the spotlight this year.
What’s more is that we actually have specs for the new phones, too. Recent leaks purportedly gave us an idea of what’s under the hood for the Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra. Their sizes are 6.1 inches, 6.7 inches, and 6.8 inches, respectively. The S23 and S23 Plus will share the same camera array, with a trio of lenses measuring in at 50MP, 12MP, and 10MP.
Things get a bit more interesting when talking about the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It’ll go up to 12GB RAM (the other two only go up to 8GB) and 1TB of onboard storage. Meanwhile, its battery is a whopping 5,000mAh, so it should be sturdy in that regard. Really, this is all about the cameras. Its main sensor is a staggering 200MP lens, joined by a 12MP ultrawide lens and a pair of 10MP zoom lenses.
In other words, it should be real good at zooming in on faraway objects. We’ll have to wait to find out what kinds of other special features these phones have, though.
Phones might not be the only announcements
Put bluntly, the expectation is that this version of Galaxy Unpacked will mostly be about the phones. That said, they probably won’t be the only devices shown off.
Samsung’s website has a teaser page ahead of Unpacked where you can put down money to reserve new devices ahead of time for store credit. You can pre-order an unspecified ‘Galaxy Smartphone’ (the S23) and an unspecified Galaxy Book laptop. This may be the Galaxy Book 3 Ultra.
Leaked specs indicate it’ll have a 16-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It could also come with an Intel Core i7 or i9 processor, an RTX 4050 or 4070 graphics card, and possibly as much as 32GB. All of that will probably cost a lot of money, too.
And that about does it. Don’t expect to see follow-ups to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 until later this year at the earliest. Do expect to see smartphones that could end up having the best cameras around.
