What to Expect From Apple’s ‘Scary Fast’ October Event

After much speculation, Apple revealed it’s hosting a new event this Monday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT). The only thing the company has told us about this presentation is its name, ‘Scary Fast,’ in addition to including the Finder face in the announcement above, suggesting this event will be about the Mac.
What will Apple announce during its ‘Scary Fast’ event?
However, that’s all the substantive details we have at this time. It’s not clear exactly what news Apple is planning to share about the Mac on Monday, nor is it obvious why the event has to be so late in the day. After all, most Apple events start at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT), so it’s strange to have us hop online after work or dinner to check out the news.
The rumors we do have, however, are exciting: Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told MacRumors that Apple is planning to unveil new MacBook Pros during the event, focusing on the upgraded M3 chip line. That could include new 13, 14, and 16-inch models, running M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chipsets.
We don’t know a ton about Apple’s M3 chip, other than it’s expected to be built on TSMC’s 3nm technology. The other M-series chips are built on 5nm technology, so this could lead to a big bump in performance and efficiency.
While new MacBook Pros are exciting, what we really need to see is a refreshed iMac. Apple never upgraded its famous desktop computer with the M2 chip, so it’s still the same machine the company unveiled back in spring 2021. That’s not to say it’s a bad computer: The M1 chip, and, subsequently the M1 iMac, still runs great in 2023. But we’re overdue for at least an upgraded option to complement the M1 iMac, so it’d be great to see an M3 iMac during Monday’s event.
