Twitter Blue Relaunches Alongside Gold Checkmark
Reading Time: 2 minutesThe new version of Twitter Blue is here, with a new checkmark for businesses.
After a temporary suspension of new signups, Twitter has relaunched its new version of Twitter Blue alongside a new verified gold checkmark. The rollout is part of Twitter owner Elon Musk’s plan to create a more enticing subscription plan that comes with verification for users.
Twitter Blue Relaunches As Gold Checkmark Goes Live
New Twitter Blue subscriptions are now live on web and iOS, along with the increased price that comes with the verification perk. New signups to the revamped plan had been paused due to a large number of newly verified accounts impersonating official brands during the initial rollout.
The new Twitter Blue plan, which costs $8 on web and $11 on iOS, also comes with the rollout of different colored checkmarks for brands or companies versus individuals.
Replacing the grey official checkmark is the new gold badge. When clicking on the badge, the information box notes: ‘This account is verified because it’s an official business on Twitter’.
The gold checkmarks should help reduce brand impersonation. However, all verified individuals still have the blue checkmark. To tell the difference between a subscriber and a legacy verified account, you will need to click on their checkmark to see.
Legacy verified accounts have the description: ‘This is a legacy verified account. It may or may not be notable’. Accounts that are verified due to a Twitter Blue subscription have the description: ‘This account is verified because it’s subscribed to Twitter Blue’.
In future, Twitter plans to roll out grey checkmarks for ‘government and multilateral accounts’.
What Will Happen to Legacy Verified Accounts?
According to Twitter Support, accounts verified through the old process won’t lose their checkmark just yet.
However, this is likely to change. According to Musk, the company will remove all legacy verified checkmarks in a few months.
This may give time for the subscription plan to roll out to more regions, as Twitter Blue is currently only available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.
The company is also testing a service called Twitter Blue for Business, which will add gold checkmarks to business accounts.
Will New Twitter Blue Be a Success?
It will take some time to see whether the new version of Twitter Blue will prove to be a success. Currently, some users are debating the value of the subscription amid the increased price, while others are happily upgrading.
