Popular Wordle clone Quordle is now a part of Merriam Webster.
The game has been one of the more popular Wordle-like games out there, probably because it offers a slightly tougher challenge than the original (in Quordle you simultaneously juggle four word puzzles instead of just the one).
The acquisition, first noticed by TechCrunch, was announced in a very low-key way: With a short statement above its tutorial section. ‘I’m delighted to announce that Quordle was acquired by Merriam-Webster! I can’t think of a better home for this game. Lots of new features and fun to come, so stay tuned,’ the statement says.
The game is now hosted on Merriam-Webster’s site instead of its own, and the new site sports a tiny Merriam-Webster logo on top. Quordle is also prominently featured on Merriam-Webster’s homepage.
Merriam-Webster is a U.S. publishing company that focuses on reference books and dictionaries. It is itself owned by Encyclopaedia Britannica, which acquired it in 1964.
Notably, it’s been almost exactly a year since The New York Times acquired Wordle, the game which started the six-letter word guessing game craze. And In July 2022, a music variant of Wordle called Heardle was acquired by Spotify.
As for hints on how to beat today’s Quordle game, we’ve got you covered.
