Optimize Microsoft Apps in Windows 11 with CCleaner 6.06
Reading Time: 3 minutesDid you know you can use CCleaner to optimize your apps on Windows 11? Here’s how.
CCleaner provides an easy way to manage cookies, files, and temporary data on your computer. The update to CCleaner version 6.06 introduced a few extra useful features specific to Windows 11, making it even easier to keep your PC running smoothly and securely.
Is CCleaner Safe?
CCleaner was the go-to tool for cleaning up Windows utilities for a long time. But starting in 2017, shortly after Piriform was acquired by antivirus giant Avast, it began to run into problems.
First, the 32-bit installer was hacked, resulting in a trojan virus being delivered during the setup process. After this was fixed, Avast introduced a monitoring and reporting option to the software, which could be disabled in the settings. Unfortunately, it was found that the reporting tool often switched itself back on without permission. And these weren’t the only problems CCleaner users faced.
Fast-forward to today, and it would be fair to ask: Is CCleaner safe to use? The previous security and privacy issues have been fixed, and there don’t seem to have been any serious breaches in the last few years. Although some might argue that Registry cleaners don’t make much difference, it should be considered safe to use in 2022.
Updating CCleaner to Version 6.06
If you have automatic updates enabled, you don’t need to worry about updating to the latest version. Just opening the app will prompt the update to version 6.06 or later. Here’s how to update CCleaner manually.
- Open the CCleaner app and click the Options tab on the left-hand side of the window.
- In the Options menu, click Updates and then click Check for updates.
- If any update is available, you will be prompted to install it. If the app is already up-to-date a message will tell you so.
You can always see the current version of the CCleaner app displayed at the top of the window. To use the tools discussed below, you should be running version 6.06 or later.
CCleaner updates apply to both the free and the pro versions. You may see more cleaning options if you are using CCleaner Pro, but the cleanable Windows 11 apps should be the same for both versions.
Optimizing Microsoft Apps in CCleaner
After updating the app, you probably won’t notice many obvious changes. There isn’t a whole new section for ‘Windows 11 Users’ or anything like that. Instead, you’ll have to dig around in the custom cleaning options.
- With CCleaner open, select the Custom Clean tab. This contains a selectable list of utilities and apps you want to clean.
- Click the Applications tab to find the majority of newly added Windows 11 cleaning options.
- Here, you’ll find options to clean Microsoft Family Safety, Windows Defender, OneDrive, and several more new additions.
- You can also now choose to clean up all the extra widgets that were added in Windows 11. You can find this option in the Windows tab.
- Select the items you want to clean and then click the Run Cleaner button.
Aside from these selectable cleaning options, CCleaner has also been optimized to better handle existing cleaning targets. These include File Explorer, Skype, and Microsoft Edge.
