JLab Launches New Silent Epic Mechanical Keyboard at CES 2023
Reading Time: 2 minutesJLab’s first mechanical keyboard is shaping up to be a competitive option.
JLab launched its new wireless mechanical keyboard at CES 2023, the first fully-mechanical keyboard from the company. The JLab Epic Mechanical Keyboard will support both 2.4GHz and Bluetooth connectivity, and best of all, it has an integrated media dial in the top-right corner.
JLab Launches New Epic Mechanical Keyboard
First up, that’s not us calling JLab’s new mechanical keyboard ‘Epic.’ JLab’s company branding scheme falls into the tiers, with Epic at the top. As such, it’s known as the Epic Mechanical Keyboard. It’s an interesting choice of name, no doubt about it.
However, having had some hands-on time with the Epic Mechanical Keyboard at CES 2023, it’s a good start for JLab in the competitive mechanical keyboard market. JLab wants the Epic Mechanical Keyboard to be a useful tool for those that want to use a mechanical keyboard in the office but don’t want the trademark click-clacking to irritate co-workers.
The Epic Mechanical Keyboard will use Kailh’s Silent Brown switches to keep the noise levels low. The Kailh Silent Brown switches have a dampening system that reduces the overall noise of each keypress. Furthermore, Kailh’s Silent Brown switches are slightly lubed, which reduces helps the movement of the switch, resulting in less friction and, therefore, less effort and noise while typing.
Interestingly, the Epic Mechanical Keyboard is very low profile. It’s also very lightweight compared to many other mechanical keyboards. Adding a steel plate or extra cushioning layers would help dampen noisy switches further, but perhaps we’ll see that in future iterations. Of course, there are other ways to silence your mechanical keyboard.
Elsewhere, the Epic Mechanical Keyboard supports Bluetooth and comes with a 2.4GHz USB dongle for ultra-low latency connectivity. The 104-key board has a 2,000 mAh battery and also has white LED illumination to help you type in darker environments.
Given the expected launch price of $129.99 (in Q3 2023), it will be interesting to see how JLab’s Epic Mechanical Keyboard performs versus some of the major mechanical keyboard competitors, some of which have passionate and dedicated followings.
JLab Is Busy at CES 2023
Along with the mechanical keyboard, JLab has also launched new earbuds, headphones, mice, and a handy wireless lapel microphone, bolstering its extensive product range. Many of these new products are expected to launch in Q3 2023, and we’re keen to get our hands on them.
