Want to post a status on Instagram that your friends and mutual followers can see? The app has rolled out a Notes feature which lets you do just that.
Here’s what you need to know about the Instagram Notes feature and how to post your own status update using it.
What Are Instagram Notes?
Notes are short text updates that appear at the top of users’ Instagram inbox. Like Stories, they disappear after 24 hours. Notes can be up to 60 characters and are made up of text and emojis.
Notes are different from Stories in a number of ways. Firstly, Notes only include text or emojisāno images or video. Rather than appearing on the home screen, they appear above your Direct Messages. While you can share public Stories from Instagram accounts, you can’t share Notes posts.
And finally, instead of being public updates, you can only share them with mutual followers or people in your Close Friends list.
How to Create a Note on Instagram
Now that you know what the feature does, here’s how to use it. To get started with your first note, follow these steps…
- Open Instagram and select the paper plane icon to go to your message inbox.
- You will see a + button on your profile picture at the top of your inbox with the text ‘Leave a note‘. Tap on this + icon.
- On the next page, type in what you want to share in the text box that says Share what’s on your mind.
- Select your audience: Followers you follow back or Close friends.
- When you’re finished, tap Share. The text status will now appear with your profile picture, alongside notes from other mutual followers.
The process is pretty easy. Just make sure you’re sharing with the right audience. Once you post a Note, people can reply to it as DMs that will arrive in your inbox, similar to Story replies.
