You paid for your DLC, so you should have access to it at all times. Unfortunately, it seems some PS4 players had their DLC uninstalled unexpectedly, with no clear solution other than to reinstall it all over again. DLC on PS4 doesn’t usually go belly up like this. The issue stems from the recent 10.00 firmware update, which itself shipped with some new features. However, one unintended consequence was uninstalling DLC on some PS4 devices, particularly when those PS4s use an external hard drive to store that DLC.
While Sony is sure to issue a patch whenever they fix the problem, you don’t need to wait. Reddit user SegaJAM shared a fix on r/PS4, which has saved many in the comments their DLC and sanity. It’s a simple, four-step solution to restoring DLC after the firmware update.
- On the PS4 dashboard, hold the PS button on your controller.
- Go to Sounds/Devices, then choose Stop Using Extended Storage. You’ll see an alert letting you know you can unplug your external hard drive, but you don’t have to, so don’t bother.
- Hold down the PS button, then choose Power > Restart PS4.
- Wait for the PS4 to rescan the hard drive.
That’s it! DLC should appear again for titles your external hard drive. Some have suggested, in the future, to disconnect your external hard drive from your PS4 before installing firmware updates. That could help avoid such an issue from occurring the next time around.

That said, it’s possible the firmware update affected DLC on your internal drive as well, at least according to one of the comments on that Reddit thread. It isn’t clear whether this fix would work in that case.
