How to Find the Perfect Game Using the Steam Interactive Recommender
Reading Time: 2 minutesNot sure what your next big gaming adventure will be? Steam’s Interactive Recommender could give you the answer. Here’s how to use it.
There are thousands of games on Steam. With so many options at our fingertips, sometimes it’s hard to find the perfect game. Thankfully, Steam offers a few tools to help you find the game you’re looking for.
One of these tools is the Steam Interactive Recommender! Here’s what you need to know about this magical tool.
What Is the Steam Interactive Recommender?
Steam has a few options to help you find games that might interest you like the Discovery Queue. The Discovery Queue is excellent, but it has its shortcomings. Browse one visual novel on Steam and the next thing you know, your Discovery Queue is littered with them. If this sounds like you, you might benefit from knowing how to hide your Steam activity!
Like the Discovery Queue, the Steam Interactive Recommender creates a personalized list of games you might like. However, these recommendations aren’t based on popular new releases or your Steam search history. Instead, the Steam Interactive Recommender gives you recommendations based on what you and other Steam users have played before.
To be more specific, the Steam Interactive Recommender uses a machine-learning system to study the playtime histories of Steam’s millions of users, including you. By analyzing users with similar play habits to you, the system generates recommendations based on the games these users play, but you don’t own.
To access the Steam Interactive Recommender, click Your Store from the Steam home page. From the dropdown menu, select Interactive Recommender and you are one step closer to finding the perfect game!
Steam Interactive Recommender Features
While this tool may not sound revolutionary, the customization features that come with the Steam Interactive Recommender are. In addition to recommending games that users like you enjoy, the tool also lets you fine-tune the results using tags.
For example, if you want your recommendations to feature strictly farming simulation games, you can add the Farming Sim tag in the tag filters section. The opposite is also true. If you want visual novels to be excluded from your recommendations, just add that Visual Novel tag to the tag exclusions section. There is even an option to exclude games on your wishlist!
However, the real cream of the crop is Steam Interactive Recommender’s sliders. These sliders allow you to customize your recommendations based on popularity and age. The cool part is that these recommendations are updated in real time as you adjust the sliders.
Adjusting the popularity slider will change how popular or niche your recommendations are. This is a great way to search for niche games you would otherwise have missed! The age slider simply lets you adjust how new or old the games are that show up in your recommendations.
Enjoy Hidden Gems With Steam Interactive Recommender
The Steam Interactive Recommender is a great way to discover games that aren’t already advertised on your Steam home page. Its customization options make it that much easier to find the perfect game for you.
So, what are you waiting for? Your next big game is waiting!
