How to Add Sticky Notes to Webpages in Google Chrome and Firefox

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Sticky notes can be a handy tool to easily keep track of notes. Here’s how to add them directly to webpages within both Chrome and Firefox.

There are plenty of software packages with which you can stick notes to the Windows desktop. Windows 11 even includes an accessory for adding desktop stickies. Yet, few of those apps enable you to stick notes to browser page tabs.

However, there are some sticky note extensions available for Google Chrome and Firefox. These add-ons enable you to stick notes directly to webpages. Then you can add handy reminders, shopping or task lists, or any other text-based note forms to specific pages. Here’s how to add stickies in Chrome and Firefox with three alternative extensions.

How to Add Sticky Notes to Chrome Pages With Beanote

Beanote is a note-taking extension for Chrome, with which you can add sticky notes and apply annotations to pages. It incorporates an additional text highlight feature, which is a useful addition. To install this extension, click the Add to Chrome button on the Beanote page linked below. Check out our guide for further details about how to install and manage Chrome extensions.

After installing Beanote, you can use it on a webpage straight away. Right-click an area of a page to add a note and select the Create Sticker Note context option. Then enter some text in the sticky note that appears.

The note will change to an icon when you click outside it. Moving the cursor over the notification icon displays the content. You can click the icon to reopen the note’s text box, from which you can edit or delete the sticky.

Alternatively, you can select full-size sticky notes to always remain on the page. To do that, click the pin button on the note. Those larger notes will overlap page content, so it’s best to place them in blank areas of webpages.

Or you can apply a note to a text snippet on a webpage. Select a text snippet to add a sticky to by dragging the cursor over it. Click the Create sticker note here option on the small toolbar that appears. Input text in the note to create it. Then you’ll see a small icon by the highlighted text you’ve added the note to.

You’ll probably notice Beanote’s toolbar also has a pen highlight option. Click that Highlighted selected text option to add a highlight without a note on top. You can change the highlight color by clicking its text and selecting the circular palette option.

You can view and access all your saved notes from the Beanote extension. Press Chrome’s Extensions button and click Beanote on the Installed tab. Click the Pages tab to view a list of webpages you’ve stuck notes to. Clicking the shortcuts there will open the pages you’ve added notes. Beanote’s Notes tab lists all the stickies added to an open webpage.

How to Add Sticky Notes to Chrome Pages With Note Anywhere

Note Anywhere is another Chrome extension that enables you to add stickies to pages via the context menu, much the same as Beanote. However, this add-on includes some extra formatting and color options for notes. You can add this note-taking extension to Chrome from the Note Anywhere page linked at the end of this section.

When you’ve added Note Anywhere to Chrome, bring up a webpage to stick a note. Right-click somewhere on that webpage to select Add Note Here. Type the content inside the sticker. Then you can reposition the sticky on the webpage by dragging it with the cursor.

If you want to delete the note or change its color, click the ellipses (three-dot) button at the top left of the sticky. Select one of the alternative colors on the bar. Or click the Delete option to remove the notification.

You can access further Note Anywhere options by clicking the extension’s menu/toolbar button. Click the Extensions menu button and select Note Anywhere from there. Then you can select Hide Notes and Iconize options within the add-on’s panel. The Hide Notes option removes stickies without deleting them. Selecting Iconize minimizes the notes to icons on pages.

Like Beanote, Note Anywhere also keeps a list of pages that include notes, so you can easily access them. To view that list, click the add-on’s Settings (cog) button to open a separate Note Anywhere tab. Select Summary on that tab to view the list, from which you can select page links.

You can also select style options by clicking Settings on the Note Anywhere tab. Click the background, text, and bar background boxes to customize the colors for notes. Or select different options on the Font and Text Size drop-down menus. Click Save to apply your new sticky note settings.

How to Add Notes to Firefox Pages With Sticky Note

Firefox users can stick notes to pages with the Sticky Notes add-on for Mozilla’s flagship browser. That extension does the same thing as Beanote and Note Anywhere, but also adds a handy note sidebar for accessing them. You can install it from the Sticky Notes add-on page below.

This add-on integrates with Firefox’s context menu much the same as the others. Open a page to include a note on, right-click anywhere on it, and select StickyNotes > Create Sticky. Then you can enter some content on a sticky note. Left-click the sticky to move it to a new page position.

The top-right corner of the sticky includes a couple of buttons. One is a tagging option, you can click to add a tag. The other is an ellipses’ menu button that includes an Edit Color option. Click that option to select a different color for your note.

To view this add-on’s sidebar, click StickyNotes on Firefox’s toolbar. Select Sidebar Sticky list on the extension’s menu. The sidebar includes a list of dates for notes added. Clicking dates shows the notes added. Select a note to view its contents. You’ll need to double-click a note’s content to bring up its page.

Create Sticky Notes in Your Browser With Web Apps

Aside from the above extensions, you can create sticky notes in any browser with online apps like Pinup and lino. Those web apps enable you to add notes to separate noticeboard tabs in your browser. However, you can’t stick notes to pages with Pinup or lino. Our guide to the best free online sticky note tools tells you more about those web apps and others.

Get Sticking in Google Chrome and Firefox

Beanote, Sticky Notes, and Note Anywhere are all good extensions for creating notes in Chrome and Firefox. With them, you can add handy notes that apply specifically to the pages or sites they’re stuck to. Although alternative notepad extensions are available, the ones above offer more unique flexibility for sticking notes to pages.
