Honor Launches Camera-Packed Magic 5 Pro Flagship at MWC 2023
Reading Time: 3 minutesHonor’s latest flagship is the Magic 5 Pro. Officially unveiled at the MWC event, here’s everything you need to know about Honor’s latest smartphone.
Looking for a flagship that focuses on the camera? Honor’s latest smartphone does just that, packing plenty of picture-snapping features to whet your appetite. At MWC 2023, the brand launched the Magic 5 Pro. This device packs in premium features you’d expect from the top brands.
Before it hits the shelves, we take a look at the Honor Magic 5 Pro and everything that it does.
Honor’s Magic 5 Pro Focuses on Picture Snapping Powers
Smartphone photography is not a new selling point. A slate of flagships arrive every year, touting impressive camera specs. What makes the Magic 5 Pro any different? Honor slapped three 50MP sensors on to its triple rear camera array. The camera module is housed in a circular bump; something that’s quite familiar among smartphones in 2023.
You’ll find a wide-angle for standard shots, an ultrawide, and a telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom. This smartphone can zoom in even further, however, up to 100x through digital magnification. This matches the camera performance from some of Samsung’s best-selling smartphones.
But it isn’t just hardware that Honor packs into the Magic 5 Pro for photography. You’ll also find AI processing at all stages of the camera–from starting up and focusing, to the actual shutter speed. This helps to speed up each picture you snap on the device, making sure that you don’t miss the perfect shot.
You’ll also find ‘falcon capture’ algorithms baked into the camera software. This further helps to improve shutter speed and focus time, making things even more efficient. Honor also baked in Super HDR processing for every mode in the camera app. It emphasizes contrast and brightness, and combines multiple exposures for more true-to-life results.
Honor Launches Its Latest Flagship: the Magic 5 Pro
The rest of the Magic 5 Pro is just as impressive for a flagship. Honor’s latest is a 6.8-inch smartphone, with a 2838×1312 resolution AMOLED display on the front. This display boasts a 120Hz refresh rate on an LTPO panel, which means the frames can also drop down to just 1Hz.
Honor’s display also supports local dimming to avoid any on-screen flickers. This will prove particularly noticeable in low-light conditions. Also designed for low light is a specially tested blue light mode, that is science-backed to not disrupt your sleep. Usually, you should avoid using your phone in bed, right? But the tech behind this display adjusts white tones to your body’s natural circadian rhythm. The panel gets rather bright, too–maxing out at 1800 nits. It’s more than enough to support vivid HDR content.
Underneath the display, you’ll find an in-display fingerprint sensor. This should feel pretty familiar, as it’s pretty commonplace on Android smartphones. Interestingly, Honor chose to include an IR blaster on the top of the device, allowing you to use the smartphone as a remote.
Also on the front is a dual hole-punch selfie snapper. As well as capturing your social posts, the camera also supports face unlocking. It’s not quite as secure as Face ID, but is a massive step-up from Android phones that just rely on a photo. It can be used as biometric security for your device.
Powering all of this is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, the manufacturer’s latest and greatest for 2023. You’ll find options for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage on Magic 5 Pro. Considering all of this, you can expect some snappy performance from Honor’s flagship.
Keeping things going is a rather large 5450mAh silicon-carbon battery. This will easily keep the Magic 5 Pro running for a day (or longer). And when you need to juice up Honor’s smartphone, you can use 66W wired charging, or 50W wireless charging to power up quickly. This smartphone also supports reverse wireless charging, so you can power your other devices.
On top of all this, the Magic 5 Pro is certified as IP68 dust and water-resistant, so will put up with standard use. This smartphone ships with MagicOS 7.1, which relies on Android 13. You’ll get all of the latest features straight from Google, with Honor’s skin on top. The brand also promises four years of both system and security updates.
For this device, Honor opted for a frosted finish. You can grab the device in green or black color options. Currently, there’s no word on pricing for the smartphone, but it will be available from April.
AI Even Reaches Mobiles at MWC 2023
Honor’s Magic 5 Pro is a pretty impressive flagship that’s bound to impress, especially if you’re keen on snapping some high-quality photos. With plenty of artificial intelligence in the news at the moment, it’s no surprise that AI is even reaching mobiles in the form of extra sophisticated features.
There’s plenty more to come from MWC 2023, as the tech event continues. Expect more smartphone releases, alongside other tech launches.
