Google Meet finally gets 1080p video in group calls
Reading Time: < 1 minutesBlob no more!
In April, Google Meet added support for 1080p video, allowing users to look a little less pixelated if their webcam supported it, but only in one-on-one calls.
Now, the 1080p option has been added in meetings with three or more participants.
The feature is off by default; you’ll be prompted to turn it on as you enter a meeting, or you can set it to on or off permanently in the settings menu.
There’s still a small catch here. According to Google, 1080p video is only sent ‘when one or more users are pinning the 1080p-enabled user on a screen large enough to render the 1080p video feed’. Furthermore, 1080p video will only work if you have enough bandwidth to support it.
The feature is available now to Google Workspace Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, and Workspace Individual subscribers. It’s not available to users with personal Google Accounts.
