A True Beginning And An End!

A Beginning of a Legendary Game

Opening –

Final Fantasy VII came out back in '97; depending on the month, I was either 17 or going on 17. The point is Final Fantasy VII shaped up to be one of the greatest games to be released on PS1. I didn't get my copy until 2 years later when I got curious about it.

Cloud and the gang were the only people I knew when it came to Final Fantasy VII, I didn't know that before the actual game, there were events that took place that brought the actual game to the forefront.

Not surprisingly, the prequel to Final Fantasy VII was born in the form of Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core which came out on PSP. Now, move time 25 years into the future. In the present day, Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion is born again in a digital remaster of the PSP game.

Only this time, the game has been fully remastered and completely playable on the PS4 and PS5 console. Coincidentally, the game came out just yesterday at midnight and though I haven't had a chance to play it yet, I will offer my thoughts on the game as well as how I feel about it.

The First Final Fantasy VII story –

At first, I was going to argue that Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion belongs to no one because of its completely unrelatable story about Zack who is about as important as soggy bread on a sidewalk.

But, after thinking about it and connecting the dots, I grew to quickly realize my mistake and correct it before I started writing this piece. For starters, Zack is related to the story of Final Fantasy VII in more than one way, Aerith mentions him in both the remake and the original which means that he meant something to her.

Also, Zack's story explains how Sephiroth went insane when he saw Jenova thinking that she was or is his mother when his actual mother has been dead for many years, Lucrecia Crescent is Sephiroth biological mother, Hojo, his father.

I mean, if my lab assistant looked as hot as Lucrecia Crescent, I would've put a baby in her too (I'd pay money to see my wife in something like that), but that's neither here nor there.

Anyway, I haven't played through the game yet and or even started it for that matter but I can tell you that I am definitely looking forward to it. In a big way, Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion ties a lot into an article I wrote from a theoretical standpoint.

Zack, Angeal, Genesis along with Sephiroth were among the first to be in the service of Shinra before they were forced to turn on each other and eventually be betrayed by Shinra. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the article I wrote ties into the first years of Shinra before any of the current corporate douchebags took their respective thrones.

Crisis Core Reunion ties in beautifully and ensuing story really makes an impact to the regard that you get to see everything in it's entirety and in its purest form. I think it's amazing how Cloud is seen taking Zack's place on that fateful night when the train to Mako Reactor 1 arrives and now we see it through Zack's eyes, it really is a great story overall.

You know, my biggest thing about the game is being able to explore every part of Zack's story and see what his life was like being a Shinra lapdog. In a big way, if I wasn't playing Grandia III right now on my PS2, I'd totally be hitting this game off because I am really wanting to try it out.

Final Thoughts –

While I thought Crisis Core Reunion didn't belong nor have any kind of ties to Final Fantasy VII, it is a story worthy of a Final Fantasy game. Personally, using summons like Bahamut, Odin even Cactuar then you're able to combine Materia which you couldn't do in the original Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core Reunion is, I feel like, a game that's on a whole another level in terms of gameplay, story, character interaction, battle and world mechanics etc. I hope that Part II which, comes out next year, is just as action packed and next level-ish as this game but I guess we'll see.
