Disney+ and Hulu Are About to Raise Prices, but You Can Avoid It
Reading Time: 2 minutesDisney+ and Hulu prices are going up, but will be the same if you keep them together.
Disney, who also owns the majority of Hulu, is raising prices for the standalone premium tiers of Disney+ and Hulu. Unfortunately, higher prices aren’t the only change: Disney+ will be cracking down on password sharing too, according to Mashable. But they also rolled out a discounted Disney+ and Hulu ad-free combo bundle that can be cheaper that you’d otherwise pay separately.
Disney+ and Hulu are getting more expensive
Disney+ Premium, which currently costs $10.99 per month, is increasing by 27% to $13.99. Hulu ‘premium’ (without ads) is increasing by 20%, from $14.99 to $17.99. For reference, the last time Disney+ increased their prices was back in December when the ad-free tier went to $10.99 from $7.99. That’s two price hikes in less than a year.
The price for both Hulu + Live TV plans will each go up by $7, to $76.99 with ads and $89.99 with no ads. If you have ESPN+, you can expect your monthly charge to go up by $1 to $10.99 per month.
The standalone basic tiers for both Disney+ and Hulu (with ads) will stay the same at $7.99 per month for each. If you get the basic bundle, you get both for $9.99 per month. All of the price hikes are set to start on Oct. 12.
Disney+ and Hulu will be cheaper together though
The (relative) good news is that you can save on these price hikes starting on Sept. 6. Disney will roll out a new ad-free streaming bundle of Disney+ and Hulu for $19.99 per month, which is a 37% discount from their respective standalone plans (but it’s the same price you would have paid for the bundle before the price hikes).
Binge watch in style with these must-haves:
- Pop your popcorn without oil in the microwave: $16.99 (normally $29.99) Salbree Microwave Popcorn Popper
- Keep your drink by your side and within reach: $25 CouchCoaster
- Upgrade your binge-watching with a projector: $69.99 WiFi Mini Projector
When will Disney+ crack down on password sharing?
If you’re worried about password sharing, Disney’s CEO said they will be exploring new ways to limit password sharing sometime in 2024. After Netflix’s success increasing subscribers after their password-sharing crackdown, other streaming services seem to be eyeing the same thing. There are ways to get around Netflix’s password sharing rules, though, and hopefully the same is true for other streamers.
