Did Netflix Cancel Your Favorite Show? Here Are 10 Things You Can Do About it
Reading Time: 5 minutesLosing your new favorite Netflix show sucks, but there are a few ways to deal with the pain (and maybe even bring the show back).
Netflix is one of the most well-known streaming services around. Its popularity largely comes from the fact that it offers a massive range of TV shows and movies. Unfortunately, Netflix has a pattern of canceling popular shows.
Have you had to say goodbye to your favorite Netflix show right when you were getting seriously into it? It’s no fun seeing a show that many considered amazing get canceled, especially when there seems to be no explanation. So when Netflix pulls the plug on your favorite show, is there anything you can do to bring it back?
1. Start (or Sign) a Petition
One of the best ways to communicate your frustration about a show cancelation is to start or sign a petition. Chances are that if it’s a widely known show that another upset fan has already created one, so just signing it is a simple step you can take to try and get a reboot.
On the other hand, if no one has created a petition, there are plenty of free websites where you can start a petition of your own. Change.org is one that most people use to create online petitions for free. To create yours, all you have to do is sign up, add all the important details and start sharing it online with others.
2. Create or Join a Twitter Hashtag Campaign
Twitter hashtag campaigns can help you reach out to like-minded people and generate awareness about a certain matter. For example, it can bring attention to a much-loved series that was rudely canceled and make it easier to find information about it.
If there isn’t already a hashtag campaign relating to a canceled show that exists, you can easily create your own. Simply type a ‘#’ and then think of a word or phrase that best describes your issue. Regarding show cancelations, the word ‘save’ is often used, followed by the name of the TV show. There have been a lot of Twitter hashtags that shaped history, so it’s worth giving it a shot.
3. Bombard Netflix’s Social Accounts With Complaints
In order to get Netflix’s full attention about how furious you are about your favorite show being canceled, you can always swamp their social media accounts with complaints. However, be sure to always be respectful and never write anything hateful or rude.
Moreover, remember that the people in charge of Netflix’s social media accounts have no control over the shows and have nothing to do with the cancelations themselves. After all, this method is all about bringing attention to the show’s cancelation, not being unpleasant.
4. Submit Frequent Requests On Netflix
Did you know that you can request a show or movie that you want to see on Netflix? This somewhat hidden feature lets you tell Netflix exactly what you want to see on their streaming service. And it is a great step to take if you want to see your favorite show up and running again.
To submit your request, sign in to your Netflix account, head over to Help Center, and under Quick Links, you’ll see the Request TV shows or movies page. You have the option to add three suggestions to the form and once submitted, you can continue to send multiple suggestions or wait for Netflix’s response.
5. Use Online Review Sites to Vent
When your favorite series is canceled, you can use an online review website to release all your pent-up emotions and feelings about the matter. Certainly, there is no need to be impolite when venting, but perhaps Netflix might spot your dismay about a show being axed and decide to do something about it.
There are plenty of websites where you can leave your customer reviews, some of the most popular being Trustpilot and Sitejabber. Additionally, you can even leave a review or recommendation on Netflix’s Facebook page.
6. Share the Loss Online With Other Fans
Sometimes all you need to do when a show is canceled is share the loss with others who are also grieving. You can connect with other frustrated fans in many places, from Twitter threads and Facebook pages to Instagram posts and TikTok videos.
When you’re sharing online, remember that even though you’re fuming right now, it’s best to avoid focusing too much on the negatives. Instead, choose to relay any news about the show, what you loved about it, and share any ideas on how to get it streaming again.
7. Switch to a Different Streaming Service
Since Netflix has developed a nasty habit of killing off shows too soon, it’s a good idea to consider switching to a different streaming service. Sure, Netflix is one of the best streaming services as it offers affordable prices, loads of content, and multiple viewership, but other services are beneficial in their own way.
Amazon Prime Video, for example, is low-cost and provides various critically acclaimed original content. There are other streaming options like HBO Max and Hulu, so be sure to take a look at some excellent Netflix alternatives available these days.
8. Rewatch the Series Again and Again
When your treasured show simply cannot be saved, the next best thing is rewatching all the seasons again and again. Even if the show only has a few episodes, watching them over can feel sentimental and remind you why you loved it so much. Perhaps rewatching it can even light a fire in your belly to keep fighting to bring it back.
9. Accept Reality and Find a New Show to Watch
The cancelation of your favorite Netflix show might feel like the end of the world. But the good news is that there are tons of other binge-worthy shows out there, especially on Netflix.
In fact, Netflix has a wide range of amazing content. At the time of writing, you can find anything from old classics like Gilmore Girls and Arrested Development to newer favorites like Ginny & Georgia and Vikings: Valhalla. So rather than moping over one show that you liked, move on to something fresh, and you’ll likely fall in love with something new.
10. Take a Break From TV Altogether
Instead of fixating so much on an axed Netflix show, why not take a digital detox and opt to do something that doesn’t involve a screen? And there are plenty of effective, screenless strategies to limit your screen time.
Furthermore, taking a breather from the tube can give you time to focus on any forgotten interests and hobbies and even help you pick up a new hobby. Always remember that it’s just a TV show, and it shouldn’t consume too much of your time.
What Can You Do After Netflix Cancels Your Favorite Shows?
Oftentimes it’s rather risky to start watching a new show on Netflix. There is always a possibility that if you start enjoying it, it might suddenly be dropped without any logical reasoning. And when a show is abruptly gone, it feels like you wasted time watching it and getting to know the characters. Plus, nothing is worse than an unanswered twist or an unfinished storyline.
There are plenty of reasons why a show on Netflix is canceled. From high production costs and viewership numbers to the overall long-term life of the show. And sadly, sometimes, even though a particular show has a strong and sturdy fan base, it may not be enough to keep it streaming on Netflix.
