‘Destiny 2’ dastardly bug is getting a fix, Bungie says
Reading Time: 2 minutes‘This is a tricky one!’
The Destiny 2 bug plaguing players is getting a fix, developer Bungie says. But it’s complicated.
The bug, which is allowing players to craft certain weapon perks into other, more powerful weapons, giving players a major edge, is the core of the problem. On Friday, Bungie’s help account posted about being aware of the issue ‘that allows specific weapon perks to be crafted into other legendary weapons and are investigating a fix, which will result in these weapons being reset in the future.’
On Saturday, Bungie said it will be rolling out two fixes for the issue. ‘For the first fix, deploying within the next 24 hours, we’re building a server-side update that will disable all crafted weapons from being equipped. Players will still be able to craft weapons during this time,’ the post read.
‘The second fix we’re building, which we hope to release soon after the first, will allow crafted weapons to be re-equipped but the outlier crafted weapons with ‘illegal’ components will be reset to a default state.’
But as the Destiny 2 team posted on Sunday, the fix is a ‘tricky one’.
‘Our goal is to fix the ‘illegal’ crafted weapons, but we want to do it in a way that doesn’t hurt the investment that players have earned with their normal, ‘legally’ crafted weapons,’ the Destiny team wrote on X.
‘This is a complex issue,’ Bungie wrote in a post on Sunday, ‘and as a result of testing, our original timeline for a server-side fix has been extended.’
Bungie noted that ‘players who discover an exploit will not receive any in-game restriction or ban’ according to the company’s ban policy, but noted that ‘the use of external scripting and network manipulation tools are still bannable offenses and subject to security review.’
