CES 2023: Philips Hue Unveils Sync App for Samsung TVs, New Smart Lights
Reading Time: 2 minutesInstead of additional sync hardware, users can download an app on some newer Samsung sets.
As you might expect, parent company Signify took time to introduce new additions to the Philips Hue line at CES 2023 in Las Vegas. But surprisingly, the biggest news isn’t smart lights.
Philips Hue Control Comes Natively to Some Samsung TVs
One of the great ways to use Hue lighting is to sync with what’s playing on your TV for a more immersive entertainment experience. Along with the cost of the smart lights, that feature also requires an additional hardware box and streaming device.
But that’s no longer the case thanks to a new partnership with Samsung announced via press release.
A new Philips Hue Sync TV app allows anyone with a 2022 and newer Samsung OLED TV in the Q60 or higher range to sync with their lights.
You can purchase the app for $129.99 from the Samsung TV app store starting January 5, 2023. Each TV requires a separate app download.
With the app, your Hue smart lights will sync with anything shown on screen including native apps like Netflix and Disney+. It will also support all image formats including 4K and HDR 10+.
Using the app, you can set the intensity of the syncing, adjust the light brightness, select video or game mode, enable automatic starting, and more.
Two New Outdoor Lights and More
On the lighting side, the new Philips Hue PAR38 floodlight bulbs in white and color ambiance are designed for use outdoors.
The existing Philips Hue Tap dial switch, announced in 2022, is also getting more flexible with a round mini mount as an alternative to the regular wall mount. That allows users to place it in additional locations around the home to control their Hue lights.
Both the Philips Hue PAR38 White and color ambiance bulbs and Philips Hue Tap dial switch with a mini mount will drive for March 14, 2023.
The bulbs retail for $79.99 for a single pack and $149.99 for a two-pack. The switch is $49.99.
Making Smart Lights Even Easier
If you have a compatible Samsung TV, the new app provides an easy way to enjoy Philips Hue smart lights at home. Hopefully, something similar will eventually arrive for other TV models.
